This is a great house in the middle of NOWHERE down a very steep and difficult track and yet in striking distance of Stroud and several good local pubs and an excellent farm shop at the end of the lane. Access - Not for a low-slung car and actually, it is not easy to find so a couple of signs would have helped as the signal goes as soon as you start on the most perilous confusing part of the track. But the cottage is home-from-home if a little scruffy, but all the better for this. We had lovely log fires, we were very comfortable, we did some great walks. Wonderful wildlife area and just what we needed. We would go again. One thing, be warned - hot water is very close to boiling. A warning note would be sensible for this. All in all, a great place to stay and we really loved it.

We had a wonderful few days in this truly special cottage. When we arrived my daughter opened the door looked in and then quickly closed it again, she thought we'd gone to the wrong place as she said "it looks like someone is already staying here & they've just popped out for a walk" such is the wonderfully homely, comfortable atmosphere.
This is the perfect place to unwind and get back to nature.
We look forward to visiting again soon.

Very nice cottage.
Very nice cottage.
It could do with some work, eg fresh grouting around the bath.
Overall, very good.

We have been there 3 times now and each time has been amazing,we love the place .Its a real get away from it all experience, the cottage is so cosey and comfortable the huge garden is fantastic our dogs were in their element running round having fun, they wore themselves out even before we all went on our daily walks, and they loved them too.The weather was fantastic and it was great to sit outside and enjoy a drink at the Woolpack . It was lovely to discover they had upgraded the TV which allowed us to have access to Netflix ,so watching a film , having the log fire going and a nice glass of wine of cause, what more can you ask for.We would highly recommend this cottage .

This is a wonderful cottage away from it all, so peaceful and quiet. The wildlife is very good with deer, badgers, buzzards and much more. The only negative is having to pay £52 for electric etc as it was warm we didn't have heating on or use any logs, so not good value for money.

We loved Driftcombe.
We loved Driftcombe. We have been before and loved it then too. It is great if you want absolutely no contact with the outside world and can navigate the challenging hairpin bend. If you can, perfect.

It was in the middle of nowhere, which is exactly what we wanted.
It was in the middle of nowhere, which is exactly what we wanted. It was like going to your own family's cottage. A real home from home.
Loads of games and dvd's and VHS tapes. Table football in the loft and loads more childrens games. Internet was a bit flaky at times but that isn't a problem if you want to detox. Absolutely no phone signal but there is a landline and honesty box. Plus I had some lovely random locals calling thinking they were calling someone else.
Lots of walking and paths to be done just from the cottage and the dog loved it. As you are deeeeeeep in the valley you need to be able to manage steep paths in places. Also the Wysis Way goes behind the cottage and you can take a 20 minute walk up to the main road (steep in places) and the farm shop for a few fresh veg and cheeses.
People leave behind various herbs and spices, flour etc so you dont have to do what I did and empty your spice rack from home because it is probably on the shelves. Also there is rosemary, thyme, sage, chives and marjoram growing just outside the house.
My only problem was the road is very narrow and the hairpin bend was a bit scary for me. ..... I wouldn't like to go down it in the dark. And I wouldn't want to sleep in the loft as there was tons of mouse droppings but being up there during the day would be fine for me.

Secluded and rustic.
Secluded and rustic. The little house at the bottom of the valley, the stuff of fairytales.
Unbeatable location, stunning private surroundings. Lots of wildlife. Everything provided, lots of games, books and DVD's plus WiFi . Certain aspects of the cottage need updating, i.e. the kitchen and the bathroom. General cleanliness could be improved. A fairer charging system for fuel / electricity costs could be implemented.
You will enjoy your stay at Driftcombe Farmhouse.

Pros: Secluded, quiet, clean, comfortable in every way, great wildlife and lovely grounds.
Cons: The television.
We have been to Driftcombe several times and never before been unable to watch terrestrial tv. The owners have fitted a Freeserve box, which didn’t appear to work and a Google Chromecast which you need a smart phone to operate via an app. Not everybody has a smart phone, I know people who don’t, and not everybody is tech savvy. We downloaded the app but still couldn’t get anything on the tv. After 3 hours of trying we gave up and went out next day and bought ourselves a portable smart tv which meant we could watch some live BBC and other channels via WiFi.
It may be that it was just us, who couldn’t work it but I think it should be made clear that there is an issue here and that it’s not just a matter of turning up and switching on.
