This was possibly one of the worst days that I have ever had and I hotel. Due to my parents having renovations done on my home, I was too able to stay at their home, So driving up from London and staying in a hotel, seems like a mini break. On arrival, the receptionist was incredibly rude, she also failed to tell me that none of the lights in my room would work unless I turned the main switch on behind the door, so I spent one hour trying to turn the lights on, and when I went down to ask for help, she replied with “no“. Upon further examination, the lights in my room did not work. I had to be then moved to another room. The first night sleep was pleasant, with no interruptions. The breakfast in the morning was cold, and the atmosphere in the restaurant was as though the staff were rushing you to leave. The second evening in the hotel was the worst night sleep I’ve ever had in my life. The hotel was at full capacity, and the noise level was ridiculous. I had a party in the room above me, and a party to the room by the side of me, and the banging on the floors and the banging on the walls was too much. I asked security to intervene, which they did happily, however this did not improve the situation. By 1 o’clock in the morning, I had guests knocking on my door and running off. After five separate noise complaints, the noise levels became even worse. This resulted in me checking out of the hotel at 3 o’clock in the morning I’m sleeping in my car. Do not sleep here.

A sad return
A return to a hotel that we used to know, from many years ago. The years have not been kind to the hotel. It is a grand looking building, the only 5 star in the area when I was a child. Sadly, through neglect and a succession of owners it is now languishing amongst 3 star categories, and I fear if a halt is not brought it will not fare well with these. Carpets are threadbare, painting is knocked and general tired, such a shame in a building of such grand possibilities. That said the lady running reception was a gem, helpful, polite and always friendly, a true asset. The best feature of our stay was the large and luxurious bath.
