"Hotel location was superb, staff was extremely helpful, check-in was a breeze, bed was really comfortable & the kitchenette with a small refrigerator came in very handy. The hotel is historic with various period furniture pieces in every room (our queen bed was most impressive) but while the lobby has been nicely updated, the carpeting on the staircase & in the hallways definitely needs upgrading. Sadly, fruit flies swarmed our glasses of red wine for 2 nights in succession which didn't add to...
"Great place!! Classic “motel” - gotta love the easy drive up to the room. Vince was terrific at check in and recommended several restaurants. We chose The Herring - great fish and chips and a variety of local beers to choose from. Checked out in the morning with more recos for places to stop en route north - Blacks in Harvey - yummy cookies. I’d totally stay at the Picket Fence again. And close to Water st. - either a short walk or a shorter drive so very handy."
"Our stay at the Algonquin was spectacular. The entire resort is beautiful and clean from top to bottom. The staff were exceptional and were always there to help with any questions or requests. Our room was beautifully decorated, clean and had everything to make our stay very comfortable. Everything at this resort is at an upgraded level. We had a wonderful time and highly recommend it to anyone looking for beautiful accommodations in a beautiful town"
"We only stayed for two nights, but during our day, we absolutely loved our accommodations and wished we had been able to enjoy the beautiful outdoor patio but it was closed on the day we would have enjoyed it!
We would definitely recommend this beautiful place to stay :)"
"It is an older motel built probably in the 1960's. The rooms are smallish. It was probably quite beautiful back in the day. One can see that the property needs attention . . . the little fence at the entrance is rotten; the stone figurines have decayed; the asphalt driveway has sunk in a few places, etc.
What is to be admired . . . the incredible variety of trees creating a glorious shade over the property on those hot days . . . it is out of the way and yet just minutes from the main drag ....
"The staff is extremely helpful, pleasant and polite. The inn and its grounds are immaculately maintained. The breakfast served at the time of your choosing was delicious and what a treat to savor it on the private patio with the birds singing and the lovely manicured grounds to enjoy. The inn is next door to the Kingsbrae Gardens and there is a gate to enter just to the right of the front door. I enjoyed the well appointed room, the whirlpool tub and the beautiful library and living room areas....
"Very old hotel. Smelled musty, damp carpets, hard beds. The light in our bathroom only worked after flipping on and off many times and ac was noisy all night"
