Grecotel Filoxenia Kalamata

Grecotel Filoxenia Kalamata

10/10 Excellent
"It was an amazing experience. Masterclass in Greek hospitality and a location second to none in Kalamata beach. The room was a bit noisy from the adjoining rooms, but nothing that prevented us from sleeping."

Grand Hotel Kalamata

Grand Hotel Kalamata

8/10 Good
"Great location nice bedding clean and nice staff. Parking close was made available to us. there is an odd smell coming out of the shower which can happen in older towns and the rain head was not functional only the hand held in the shower It is higher end of prices for the area so regular maintenance important - we gave the hotel permission for them to enter room and repair but received no folllow up on whether they tried or not and it wasn’t repaired by the next morning so that was disappointing especially at the price for the room"

Zoe Seaside Resort

Zoe Seaside Resort

10/10 Excellent
"Amazing Zoe at Gialova. Second family visit 10/10 Location. Next to the restaurants and shops. Central to Pylos and Romanos area. Executive suites can be noisy next to the main road, especially as the Pylos - Kalamata road is under construction. 1 Minute walk to Martins which has everything you need food/drink/beach wise. Fantastic restaurant, beach area and service. Pool is huge, and never too busy. Beautiful garden/farm surroundings. Cleaning staff are excellent and lovely people. ."

IRA-HPA Hotel

IRA-HPA Hotel

8/10 Good
"I stayed at the IRAHPA Hotel in central Kalamata and found it a comfortable, straightforward place to stay. The location is excellent, the hotel is clean, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The room is simple but functional and suited for one or two people. The bed was comfortable, there was space for my things, and it stayed quiet. My view was mostly the wall of another building. Breakfast was nice, with some Greek options and a pleasant seating area by the windows. The breakfast hostess, a delightful lady from Montreal, was warm and gracious. A couple of quirks: as is typical in this part of Greece, toilet paper and sanitary items cannot go in the toilet—they go in a small bin nearby. Some design choices felt awkward, such as the hairdryer plugged into an outlet right above the hand-soap dispenser, making the soap hard to use. The hotel provided complementary water plus a welcome gift of wine and local snacks. At checkout they kindly stored my bag for several hours while I explored the city.Overall, IRAHPA isn’t flashy or especially impressive, but it’s clean, comfortable, well-located, and the staff are genuinely helpful. A reliable, simple base with a good breakfast."

Akti Taygetos Conference Resort

Akti Taygetos Conference Resort

10/10 Excellent
"Lovely pool and beach complex over the road from the car park, water so clear to snorkel in. There were facilities pool side to change if going to airport, but no extractor fans in any of the bathrooms which would be my only moan, they got very hot! There's no gym yet, but it could be a nice addition and hotel is away from the busyness of Kalamata. Just a shame that the airport is so old and dilapidated, it puts you off returning to the area, as it's grotty and the lack of facilities are really poor in 2026 from no cafes, to running water and soap in the ladies toilets. Maybe the hotel can raise this with the authorities as I wouldn't return based on the delays and service."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Spitalion?
The best area to stay in Spitalion is the main town itself, particularly around the waterfront and the historic upper town.Spitalion's main town is built amphitheatrically around a natural harbour, offering stunning views of the Aegean Sea. The waterfront promenade, lined with tavernas and cafes, is the heart of the town's activity. Just behind this, a maze of narrow, cobbled streets climbs up to the upper town, revealing traditional stone houses and small squares. The main square, Plateia Omonias, is a popular meeting point.Couples looking for a romantic escape will find the upper town particularly appealing. Its quieter lanes and traditional guesthouses offer a more secluded experience, often with breathtaking sea views from private balconies. Exploring the charming alleys and discovering hidden churches provides a delightful way to spend an afternoon.Families, on the other hand, might prefer staying closer to the waterfront. The convenience of having restaurants and cafes just steps away, along with easy access to the small town beach, makes it a practical choice.
When is the best time to go to Spitalion?
The best time to visit Spitalion is during the shoulder seasons of May, early June, September, and early October.During these months, the weather is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the ancient sites and enjoying outdoor activities without the intense heat of mid-summer. You'll find fewer crowds compared to the peak summer months of July and August, meaning a more relaxed experience at popular attractions and a better chance of securing your preferred accommodation. The sea is also warm enough for swimming, particularly in September.Couples looking for a romantic getaway will appreciate the quieter atmosphere during these times. They can enjoy leisurely meals at seaside tavernas, stroll through historic sites, and take scenic drives through the Peloponnese countryside without feeling rushed or overwhelmed by tourists.Families travelling with children might also find these months more comfortable. The milder temperatures are better for little ones, and attractions are less busy, making it easier to navigate and enjoy.
