#### Traditional wooden houses and a lively harbour make this charming coastal town a very popular spot among tourists and locals alike.

Son is a picturesque town with a great harbour area, beautiful white wooden houses, twisting narrow streets and an interesting Coastal Culture Centre. The town is located along the sunny side of the Oslofjorden (Oslo fjord) inlet in Norway.

The river has always played a major role in Son. The name of the town is believed to come from the name of the river Hølenselva in Old Norse, an ancient language once spoken in Scandinavia.

Discover a traditional coastal town with a harbour that’s been active since the Renaissance era. The people of Son used to focus on logging, transporting timber from nearby areas down the river, and then working in building and repairing ships. See this beautiful place where many writers and painters decided to settle. The one-time spot for maritime craftsmen became known as the town of artists.

If you want to learn more about the story of this Norwegian town, stop at Kystkultursenteret, the Coastal Culture Centre. Find the centre in the heart of the city scattered across several different buildings. See an old fishermen’s house, a museum pier with old wooden ships, a seaside cottage and a museum shop.

To see boats and ships of many different types and sizes, visit the beautiful harbour of Son Marina. The lively spot has good restaurants, cafés and shops. Along the harbour area you can also see Thornegården, one of the most famous historic houses of Son, built centuries ago. Other beautiful historic houses near here are Wollegården, Stoltenberggården and Birkelandsgården, which houses the Son library.

Son is a town in the municipality of Vestby, in Akershus County, Norway. Look for several nice sandy stretches in Son. Find Son Beach just a short walk from the town square and enjoy Brevik Bay, which is a great spot for sunbathing and playing volleyball.
