About this property
Indoor treehouse! Swivel fire pit & gas grill. Close to trails & attractions.
We are always improving for guests ~ Mach 2026 adding a new gas grill for outdoor cooking, but guests who want to be old school can still use the swivel fire pit to cook over wood or charcoal. The covered porch is perfect for hanging out in all weather with sliding cushioned rocker for morning coffee/tea or late night star gazing and picnic table for meals or charcuterie spread.
Recently renovated to add a master bath, laundry room, and create a kid friendly indoor treehouse out of attic storage space in the bedrooms, Mountain Grove is relaxing and fun during the fall, winter, spring or summer. Located in the heart of Laurel Highlands in a little neighborhood of Conservation Civilian Corps cabins less than one mile from Kooser State Park and nestled between Hidden Valley, Seven Springs and Laurel Mountain ski resorts, this family and pet friendly cabin in the woods has everything you need to enjoy an outdoor getaway. Travelers have enjoyed this cozy home in the mountains as a solo rejuvenating escape for 1, getaway for 2, a family vacation, or a get together with friends/extended family.
Nearby attractions include hiking, biking, skiing, fishing, golfing, star gazing, bird watching, cave exploring, restaurants, spas, amusement parks, a zoo, go carts and more. Enjoy the many trails and ponds nearby at Kooser (2 minute drive), Laurel Hill (7 minute drive) or Forbes (12 minute drive) State Parks. Bike the GAP trail at Rockwood just 15 minutes away. Check out the local resorts for food, golf, spas, ziplines, mountain biking, special events, skiing and more at Hidden Valley (5 minute drive), Seven Springs (17 minute drive), or Laurel Mountain (30 minute drive). Peruse the local towns of Somerset (15 minute drive), Ligonier (30 minute drive) or Ohiopyle (34 minute drive) for restaurants, shopping, white water rafting and trails. Local attractions also include Idlewild, Caddyshack, Living Treasures Animal Park, Laurel Caverns, Jennerstown Speedway, Fort Ligonier and more! Glade Pike Winery tasting room is just up the road with live music on Saturday nights as well. Check out laurelhighlands.com for more ideas.
Even though you will feel like you are in the middle of the woods in a peaceful setting, if you forget anything a gas station/convenience store is only a 2 minute drive away and a grocery store is only a 20 minute drive away. Once you settle in, you will enjoy a cozy, traditional cabin in the woods with spacious front deck, outdoor combo bonfire/grill (Charcoal or wood for cooking or simply relaxing. One bundle of wood is provided to start your vacation, but there are places nearby to purchase charcoal or more wood.), gas fireplace, and indoor treehouse for kids ideally ages 6 - 12.
Kids love climbing the stairs next to the tree mural because it feels like they are climbing into an indoor treehouse with repurposed wood accents on the walls. As you walk in, you will see a mini window above the kitchen area, so adults in the kitchen or living room downstairs can hear the kiddos playing upstairs or opt to close the window so the kids can sleep while parents still hang out downstairs. The creates a fun, spacious cabin for families.
Excellent WiFi service will help you stay connected to friends, family, and work (Gasp! Only if necessary...you should be relaxing!) or allow you to finally binge watch that series you always wanted to see.
A variety of games, cornhole on the front deck or in the yard, and the bonfire pit that can be used as a grill with wood or charcoal will help you stay entertained and unplug from screens too!
3 bedrooms and 2 baths accommodates a maximum of 8 people and 2 well behaved, house trained dogs. There is an additional $30 per night pet fee when fur family joins you at the cabin. Please be sure to check the pet box when booking to pay during your reservation, or you will need to pay it before your arrival.
If you have additional people or pets in your party, please message to inquire about also renting Blue Mountain Retreat (with terraced backyard including hot tub, bonfire circle, picnic table and gas grill also accommodating up to 8 people. See vrbo.com/3579454 ) adjacent to Mountain Grove. Multiple families have enjoyed renting both cabins for relaxing family reunions or birthday celebrations.
The location off of 31 makes it easily accessible year round, but far enough off the road to be peacefully tucked in the woods. A limit of 3 cars per cabin has to be maintained because there is no overflow parking available nearby (AWD or 4WD vehicles during the winter months of snow are required for ease of access). Visitors should be accounted for in your reservation.
We cannot wait to host you! Feel free to reach out with any questions about additional attractions or inquiries.

This home was perfect for us 4 ladies. We all had our own sleeping space and enough room for all our stuff. Our one friend like the closeness of the park which she was able to walk to. This home was perfect for our annual hiking trip. Its also close to so much that we wanted to experience. i.e. Falling Water and Ligonier.
The amenities were wonderful and the host was very receptive. We had the very minor misfortune of loosing power while we were there but the host was very responsive and coordinated with us very quickly. The power came on a couple of hours later and we had flashlights with us so we were fine overall. The host checked in on us and made sure we were ok during the outage. We had snow our last day and the kids Really enjoyed the snow molding toys available at the cabin.
This spacious, cute, and immaculate cabin is in a terrific location for skiing, other activities, and food. The cabin is stocked with all necessities and more. Our kids loved the loft. Highly recommend!!!!!
We stayed with our kids ages 5-10 and loved this cabin. Easy, quick drive to the ski resorts, had everything we needed and was super clean and well kept. If it's snowing when you arrive, you'll want 4WD to get up the hill to the cabin. Would stay again!
The host gave detailed information regarding the house and surrounding area. Everything listed was accurate and our stay was enjoyable. The location offered a short drive to everything we wanted to visit during our stay. I would recommend this property to anyone interested in visiting the area.
This was the best cabin for our group of 7!! Plenty of communal space, SO CLEAN, a super fun loft area for the kids, and a beautiful outdoor view. Lisa was an unbelievably kind host, with lots of information about the sites and restaurants of the surrounding towns. We’re talking about staying again next year!!
This is our second time staying here because Lisa is a great host and the cabin is perfect for our crew. We often meet family in PA so we often host at least one dinner- and this place is great for that.
Very clean and Lisa is amazing about communicating.
First trip to western PA and the area was beautiful with many great hikes in proximity to the cabin. Lisa was very helpful with suggestions for areas to visit/restaurant recommendations and she was very responsive.
Lisa was an excellent host and the property met all of our expectations. Top notch host all around! Very informative about the property as well as the local area. The house was perfect fit for our group on a ski trip. Very cozy and had everything we needed during our stay! The kids loved the loft area! We would definitely recommend, and return in the future!
We loved our stay at Mountain Grove. The kids loved the "tree house" and we all enjoyed using the fire pit in the evenings. Everything was clean and the house had everything we needed. We'd definitely consider renting here in the future.
We had a great time! The house was very clean and comfortable. We went with two 16-year-olds who absolutely loved the tree house loft. The fire pit was perfect for relaxing in the evenings. You’re close to other houses, but it was worth it. The location was great, close to museums and Fallingwater. Lisa was extremely responsive annd very accommodating. We had so much fun and would definitely come back!
My husband and I really enjoyed the cabin and nearby outdoor activities (hiking and kayaking). A wonderful host and amenities. It was a great location to meet our adult children who live in Pittsburgh and Columbus, OH. I'm sure the location/neighborhood is better for winter activities. We'd definitely consider coming back if we rented both houses owned by the host.
Sweet cottage for the weekend in the Laurel Highlands. Very clean, well kept cottage met our needs for the weekend. The host was attentive and helpful during our stay and supplied LOTS of information for the area! We came to see Frank Lyod Wright's Fallingwater, stopping along the way at the Flight 93 Memorial. Beutiful area, wineries, cute shops, lovely parks. Thank you Lisa!
This cozy cabin on the mountain was the perfect retreat for us and our Golden Retriever, Buddy! We all loved it! Perfect location for us to visit family nearby. Lovely expansive front porch was perfect for morning coffee with a view of the mountains of the Laurel Highlands! Already thinking of another visit in August. You'll absolutely fall in love with this cozy home!!
We had such a wonderful time at this cabin. It was the perfect fit for our family . Our 3 boys loved the tree house and loved playing up in the tree house . The house was beautifully decorated, clean, and had everything we needed for our weekend . The host was very responsive and checked in on us to make sure everything was going well. I hope we can come back again sometime to make more memories !
The house was clean and as expected. The kids loved the loft treehouse inside. Dog friendly is a huge plus. A few minutes from kooser state and a few more from Laurel hill park. Great location. Lisa was great and easy to communicate with. We loved the fire pit and the big classic Laurel highland rocks in the landscape.
Very clean and convenient. We actually only slept there (and the beds were comfortable) since we had other obligations in the area. We were grateful for the new Air Conditioner since the weather was very warm. We had good communication with the host and Lisa was prompt in her responses. Lisa also furnished helpful dining and grocery information. I would definitely consider staying at this property again.
Came up Tuesday with some plans to ski Wednesday. The place was warm and welcoming and an absolutely perfect home-away-from-home. We skied Hidden Valley in the early part of the day then back to the cabin to relax and eat some lunch before heading to 7 Springs for the night session. Our dogs loved walking around the neighborhood and sleeping on the couches! All in all, a prefect little family get away! Thanks Lisa and Jamie, we will be back!
Kids LOVED the indoor tree house. Lots of games around, too. The living area was comfortable with lots of seating. Good sized dining table, too. It rained all weekend but Lisa had wood and a lighter ready for us to use in the fire pit. She also gave us great recs for activities nearby. Check out Moo Echo for sure! Thanks Lisa!
Very nice mountain cabin. Clean and well maintained.. Spacious great room with wonderful big windows for lots of natural light. Ample front porch to enjoy and be sheltered from the elements. We had some rain and were still able to have morning coffee and evening meals out of doors.
Easy access to the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail at the Rockwood trailhead. Also quite close to Kooser and Laurel Mountain state parks.
Moo Echo Dairy market is close by; general store with yummy homemade ice cream.
