Begin winding your way through red ginger lilies, green bottlebrush plants, moss-covered trees and exotic flowers. At the top of the falls, stop on one of the seats and breath in the cool rainforest air or set up lunch at the picnic tables. Keen bird watchers will be impressed by the array of tropical birds darting along the river. With a friendly guide at your side, learn to identify local varieties of plants and flowers and their traditional uses. Crotons, bamboos, ferns, cocoa plants and indigo are only some of the tropical plants surrounding the falls. At the top of the falls, step into a handmade bamboo raft. First you will see the Bridal Veil Falls cascading down a rock face, then the beautiful 30-feet tall Hidden Falls emerge through a narrow gorge. Swim in the clear blue pool, massage your back and shoulders under the falling water and climb into the cave behind. Nested in between Hope Bay and Port Antonio, on Jamaica's north coast, the property includes a restaurant and bar offering guests elegant dining with a selection of fresh seafood. Spend an afternoon in the falls before heading to the bar for a pre-dinner drink and some local entertainment. There are also private cottages and guest rooms offering overnight accommodation. The Somerset Falls can be accessed during the day and the best way to get to the falls is by vehicle: Take the car, a taxi, or book a tour.
