The best time to visit Sequoia National Park depends on what you'd like to experience, with the summer months (June to August) offering the most accessibility and the winter months (December to February) providing a unique, snow-covered landscape. For those looking to explore the park's iconic giant sequoia groves and enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, summer is ideal. During this time, all park roads, including the scenic Generals Highway and the road to Moro Rock, are typically open, and the shuttle services operate frequently. The weather is generally warm and sunny, superb for spending full days outdoors. If you're seeking a quieter experience and don't mind colder temperatures, visiting in winter can be magical. The giant sequoias covered in snow create a stunning backdrop for photography and offer opportunities for snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. However, many park roads, including the scenic Kings Canyon Scenic Byway, close due to snow, and some facilities operate with reduced hours or close entirely. It's crucial to check road conditions and bring appropriate winter gear.
