A wonderful, genuine escape in the heart of historic Savannah where visitors can experience life as a local and enjoy everything Savannah has to offer. “The Clara” is situated in the historic Victorian District, just a leisurely 5-minute walk to Savannah’s renowned Forsyth Park the largest park in downtown Savannah. Take a delightful stroll from the front door of "The Clara" through the Spanish moss-draped trees to the cobblestones of River Street, exploring the beautiful Savannah Squares, charming shops, and eateries along the way! About the home: Step back in time by staying in a Strous Row, circa 1891, townhome. Named after one of Margaret Strous’ daughters who grew up next door more than a century ago, “The Clara” showcases Victorian architectural details inside and out, furnished with period antique pieces collected from all over Georgia. Upon entering “The Clara,” you'll find a spacious living area with comfortable seating, a 70” Roku smart TV, secretary desk, and reading nook. The formal dining room with an open floor plan to the living room features a 6-8 seat dining table, buffet, and numerous lounge chairs. An additional dining table in the adjacent breakfast room can accommodate up to six. The kitchen is modern and well-equipped with all necessary cooking and kitchenware. French doors lead to the classic back porch with wicker furniture overlooking the private courtyard. The home includes two full vintage bathrooms, one downstairs and one upstairs, along with a large laundry/dressing room upstairs. The grand staircase leads to all 4 bedrooms upstairs (3 spacious bedrooms and a smaller 4th bedroom known as the ‘trunk room’.) Amenities: Two designated off-street parking spaces, private courtyard, exterior porches, free wifi, well-stocked kitchen, ample linens, washer/dryer, and local Savannah owners for assistance during your stay. We loved the home, from its historical details to the many well placed decorations in every space of the house. It felt very warm and welcoming, even though I was convinced it would be haunted, as much of Savannah is. House was not too far from attractions. We felt safe walking nearby during the day. The vintage furnishings were charming! The kitchen was well stocked and we were even greeted with fresh flowers, chocolate, and birthday wishes! Our host was very pleasant and responsive! It seems bigger and more stunning than the pictures. Has 3 separate outdoor sitting areas as well. Upstairs bedroom area was adorable and historic. Location was perfect and we either walked, road the DOT, or used uber. Parking and checking in was a breeze. Jon and Carmen could not have been more inviting and initiated contact all the way, making certain every need was met. Our only regret was we didn't plan to stay longer. It was a beautiful Savannah home with plenty of space for a large group. As one of our friends said, it was nice to be in a house advertised to sleep 10 people that also had enough living space for a large group to actually relax! Communication was very good. House is historic and has some beautiful things about it but it’s old. If you like modern this isn’t the place for you. Living room was comfortable and the kitchen has all the necessary conveniences. The bathrooms are old! That might work for you. The house is over 100 years old, and you can tell for sure. It was immaculately clean, but in very fragile condition. Peeling paint on the ceilings, precariously sloping floors in upstairs bathroom, inability to lock most inside doors, not enough outlets to plug in all tech for 10 people. But, on the positive note we had fully stocked kitchen, walked to the waterfront, and pretended to be dainty Southern ladies walking down a gorgeous hundred year old staircase. Incredible house.
