Haint blue — that soft, sky-washed blue you see on porch ceilings, doorways, and shutters all across the Lowcountry — is more than just a beautiful colour. Rooted in Gullah Geechee heritage, the tradition holds that haint blue tricks restless spirits ("haints") into thinking the ceiling is water, keeping them from entering the home.
