Well maintained and friendly property. We loved the mezzanine level room and the pool. There were four of us, two adults and two older children. There didn’t appear to be much to do within walking distance of the property but we had a car to visit where we wanted to go so this didn’t bother us. We did find two other restaurants within walking distance, they were popular though so make sure you make a reservation. The breakfast was delicious as were the meal in the restaurant; the best meal my...

The room was stunning. Plenty of parking and the room was very clean on arrival. We did find one odd feature but managed around it, the toilet door was see through which we've never seen before.

The property was lovely, our room was very clean and well appointed. It is a very quiet location with a very nice courtyard area to sit and relax. Our hostess Sandra was delightful and provided us with a delicious breakfast including homemade breads and cake.

The best area to stay in São Jorge is near the Castle of São Jorge, particularly within the historic Alfama district or the Baixa-Chiado neighbourhood.
For visitors who appreciate history and a more traditional Portuguese experience, Alfama is an excellent choice. It's one of Lisbon's oldest districts, characterised by its narrow, winding streets, Fado houses, and stunning viewpoints. You'll find yourself just a short walk from the Castle of São Jorge, and the Lisbon Cathedral is also nearby. This area offers a sense of stepping back in time, with many small, independent shops and eateries.
Couples looking for a central and elegant base will find Baixa-Chiado very appealing. This area is known for its grand 18th-century architecture, wide avenues, and sophisticated shops. It's incredibly well-connected by public transport, with Rossio Square and the Santa Justa Lift within easy reach. The Praça do Comércio, a large riverside square, is also a key landmark here, offering beautiful views of the Tagus River.
When is the best time to go to São Jorge?
The best time to go to São Jorge is during the late spring and early autumn months, specifically from May to June and from September to October.
These periods offer a pleasant balance of warm weather and fewer crowds, making it ideal for exploring the island's natural beauty. You'll find the temperatures comfortable for hiking the coastal trails and visiting the fajãs without the intense heat or the busier atmosphere of the peak summer season.
For those keen on outdoor activities like hiking and canyoning, May and June are particularly good. The landscape is lush from the spring rains, and the weather is reliably sunny without being overly hot. It's a great time for couples or solo travellers looking for an active holiday with stunning scenery.
September and October are also excellent, especially for travellers who prefer a more relaxed pace. The sea temperatures are still warm enough for swimming, and the vineyards are often in harvest, offering a unique local experience.
