The neighborhood
The Colonial Zone / Old Town is both an important historical site and a vibrant neighborhood that is currently experiencing a cultural and economic renaissance.
Founded in 1498, the Santo Domingo Colonial Zone is the oldest European settlement in the New World. In 1990, the entire area was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Colonial Zone is a wonderland of historic Spanish Colonial buildings and monuments. Yet, the area is so much more than a mere open-air museum. It is a bustling district filled with shops, restaurants, cafes and night clubs. The vibrant street life, incredible live music performances and beaAutiful parks and squares make the Colonial Zone a prime tourist destination.
This amazing historical area features some of the oldest buildings in the New World. Top attractions include the Catedral Primada de América, the first cathedral in the Americas, and the Alcázar de Colón, the former residence of Christopher Columbus' son. Other attractions include the Convento de los Dominicos, the first monastery in the Americas, and Ozama Fortress, the oldest fortress in the New World.
The Santo Domingo Colonial Zone also has beautiful parks and squares. Parque Colón, in front of the cathedral, is the perfect place to take a break and watch the people strolling by. Plaza de España is an enormous square lined with some of the area's best restaurants. It is also the backdrop for live music and dance performances every Friday and Saturday evening.
The Ruins of the San Francisco Monastery are another setting for live music. Every Sunday night, locals and tourists gather to enjoy a lively evening of Latin music and dancing.
Visitors staying in the Colonial Zone will find that everything is within easy walking distance. The hotels are near all of the top attractions, as well as great shopping, fine restaurants and fun night clubs.
The Colonial Zone is an amazing tourist destination that offers something for everyone.

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in
Disliked: Listing accuracy
Initially both Ariela and Celeste were nice and friendly but towards the end of our stay they were not as receptive and/or understanding to our needs. Celeste was difficult to speak with, lacked understanding and at times she became argumentative. I understood that check-out was at 11pm but felt pressured because Celeste showed up at 10:30pm to conduct an inspection of the property which did not go well. Many of our guests were taking showers and dressing up to leave the property. It's significant to mention, that one of shower stools in one of the rooms, while one of my guests was taking a shower, the fiber glass floor collapsed, she cut her foot, was bleeding and it became swollen. They did not offer any medical assistance nor anyone showed up to inspect the damage her injury. I do have to say that all the bedrooms and the whole property was clean and spotless. I usually travel from the USA and I have stayed in numerous Villas, Hotels and Resorts in the past but I've never experienced such a negative interaction as we did at this particular Villa with Celeste and Ariela. I did not like the location and I will definitely never stay there again.

Excellent experience
Really enjoyed our experience. The location in the old section of Santo Domingo meant an easy walk to most places. The rooms were comfortable and very clean. The house was well appointed and perfectly suited my extended family, including two 6 year olds. The best part was the housekeeper - Celeste is an absolutely wonderful person. She is hardworking, kind and has a permanent, genuine smile on her face. She went out of her way, taking us around town to help us find the right kind of flowers for a wedding. The only negative was that we had no hot water. Attempts were made to fix the problem but it didn't happen before our departure.
This is a great place to stay for a large group. It’s just outside the colonial zone and minutes from the malecon. The upstairs with a large table and seating area and outside small cold pool and grilling area is a great place to hang out. I’d recommend the property overall, but…
Some cons: The house is older and may not have all the conveniences you are used to. The lighting in the house at night is dim. Bathrooms have no vanity lighting. The lower floors don’t get much natural light and feel a bit cramped with little room for suitcases (outside the 2 large rooms).
The villa was super responsive to our feedback and fixed a list of 12 issues we had with the property including some maintenance problems and needing blankets on the bed.
We Greatly Appreciated being allowed to enter the home early. Beautiful home with convenient location. But for the price, we would have appreciated hand soap in the bathrooms especially during a pandemic, blankets in the rooms and I recommend adding to your welcome guide directions on getting hot water for showers as all but one room was able to get a hot shower on the first night and were unable to get to watch tv in individual rooms. Internet also only worked in common area. Extra garbage bags would have been nice in the kitchen. We were asked if we wanted the housekeeper service and said yes but no one ever showed up. The night security was a plus in a big city.
We had a great couple of days at Villa Imperial, located in the colonial city.
The house is big , comfortable and clean. The communication with owners was excellent and the recommended driver and chef Anthony was amazing!
Thanks , will definitely return!

Beautiful and Big
We had 12 guests (faculty and students) and really enjoyed this home. The owner communicated with us often to make sure we were happy and we felt like we had everything we needed. Having so many rooms w/own bathrooms was really helpful for our group. AC in the individual rooms was nice, but we needed to open room doors to cool the whole house. The location in 'old town' was nice and we were able to walk to several places. A few pros/cons:
Pros: Guard at night provided, housekeeper on site (she had her own attached home), tons of space, nice outdoor space, felt safe inside, in-room experience was nice (TVs, ac, bathrooms, wi-fi in most rooms)
Cons: Outdoor pictures are nice but make it seem massive. It's nice, but not big. The pool looks larger in the pictures (think of it as an oversized cool jacuzzi tub; still nice, but not a swimming pool), wi-fi was spotty in some rooms, but good in main areas, some cosmetic issues (exposed wires, painting that needs to be updated), tv service was there but not great, didn't work in some rooms.
Would we stay here again, yes!

Simply Amazing!
This was an amazing trip! The property was perfect for my birthday party of 8 people and many visitors. The pool was awesome and Celeste maintained the house in incredibly clean condition. She was also an amazing cook! We stopped eating out after one meal from her. Jens responded super quick to any questions. I will rent this place again and again! Highly recommended property! The best and most complete property in the DR! Thank me later.
