This property is a designated historic site, with local lore suggesting that the Rockefellers, Vanderbilts, and other dignitaries once stayed here.

This location is very convenient to all of the East Beach restaurants and the beach itself. The hosts were very helpful in trying to help us find keys, troubleshoot, etc. while they were away, they were still available via phone. They also supplied beach, chairs and towels, which was a great bonus for us. The wicker chairs on the front porch were our favorite hangout spot. Thank you for all that you did for us while we were there.

We had a wonderful stay at 118 Chapala Garden. Sandy was great with communication and the place was absolutely amazing ... especially having access to the beautiful rooftop garden. Location was perfect ... close to everything!
A short block to the beach, restaurants, Stearns Wharf and the Harbor, plus a wonderful rooftop garden, made it the perfect, charming place to stay. The hosts are available and amiable which makes it even nicer.
We enjoyed our stay at the Santa Barbara beach house. The rooms are spacious and it is well equipped. I miss the comfy bed already. I loved the craftsman character that has been retained in the house. The host was very informative and quick to respond to any questions.
Walkable to everything - the harbor, the beach, the funk zone, State St., the train station, ect. The unit was very spacious and access to the rooftop garden was a cool perk!
Great location, Great host. Great time. Stayed for 3 weeks, we returned our rental car after a couple days and walked or biked for 2 weeks. One block from the train station, one block to beach, three blocks to center of town. Wonderful restaurants and bars within easy walking distances. We had a great time exploring Santa Barbara.
This apartment was very comfortable and pleasant. Super close to most of Santa Barbara’s desired activities. I recommend it highly. Sandy, the host, was most helpful and available.
My brother lives here in Santa Barbara and we always stay at Chapala Gardens when we visit him. Clean, spare unit with plenty of room and all the amenities. We love sitting on the spacious porch, enjoying the California sun.

Excellent location and units in Santa Barbara! Sandy (host) was very communicative and helpful! We had a family dinner on the rooftop patio (our family had rented all three units) and Sandy offered tables, chairs, and other help to make it a great experience. The unit is very close to the beach and close to town center where some amazing restaurants and shops are.
Wonderful place with charm, walk to beach, Jeannine's, Biergarten, Santa Mezcal, Brophy Bros! Short drive to Jaffurs for wine tasting and Barbareno for dinner. All great food and experience. Relaxing on porch watching dog walkers. Large bathroom and bedroom, 2 closets made it easy accommodations. Thank you!
We loved our stay at Chapala Gardens. The location is perfect…close walk to the beach or State street. The accommodations were clean and as advertised. The rooftop garden stole the show. My wife and I ended up fixing dinner at home on 3 of our five nights because the rooftop was the best location in town. We also ate breakfast up there each morning. Sandy was an excellent host.
location was fantastic! close to water, Funk Zone and State Street. While we had a car... didn't need it or use it except for day trips. Beach chairs and towels very useful. Rooftop garden is lovely and while shared with other 2 units, was very private. Ability to grab some salad greens and herbs was a real bonus! We will definitely be back!
We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful Santa Barbara property. Nestled along Mission Creek, the home carries a historic charm that’s hard to find, and the bones of the house are truly special. The location is ideal—close to the beach and within easy reach of everything State Street and the Funk Zone have to offer, yet still peaceful and tucked away.There was a transition of ownership during our stay, and while things were initially a bit confusing with the previous owners, the new owner, Jeff, reached out right away and did everything he could to make the process smooth. His communication was clear and thoughtful, which we really appreciated.After our stay, Jeff followed up with us to ask about our experience, gather feedback, and talk through suggestions for improvements. His openness to ideas and genuine interest in making the property even better was well above and beyond what we’ve experienced elsewhere.Jeff also shared that updates are already planned, and with such a beautiful foundation and an owner who truly cares, we’re excited to see how the home evolves.We look forward to returning and are grateful for the attentive, proactive communication from the new owner.
We enjoyed our stay at Chapala Gardens. The weekend was unseasonably rainy and cold, so plans for biking and hiking shifted to local theater and use of the rain gear we smartly brought!.
Gave us a good excuse to hunker down and enjoy the two fireplaces and covered porch. The location (and rental car) afforded us to either walk or to drive to our targeted activities.
Quality and comfort - - - all the comforts of "home away from home". Our parade was definitely not rained on, just rerouted!
The home is beautiful and the host takes care that their guests are well accomodated. We stayed here the night before my wedding and it was a lovely place in a great area close to the beach and the courthouse. Definitely stay here when you visit Santa Barbara!
Chapala Gardens is a wonderful place to stay when visiting Santa Barbara. You can walk to many wonderful restaurants, cafes, and shops. The apartment is stocked with everything you need for a delightful stay.
Great location. We especially enjoyed spending quiet time on the front porch watching the hummingbirds. The house is so beautiful that many people walking by took photos of it! We would love to return. Many thanks to your housekeeper as she was most friendly and helpful.
Everything was perfect! We absolutely had a wonderful experience from the location, to great communication with hosts. The home is cozy and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The rooftop is a very special treat for the guests!! 10/10

Amazing in every single way! So incredibly clean, comfortable, and roomy for a family with a 12 & 14 year old. Fantastic kitchen and mind bending roof top garden.. Simply can’t wait to go back!
