We were thinking about staying for the night in San Marino, when I stumbled on this beautiful treasure just by chance. Located only about 20 minutes away through winding mountain roads - this is a 1000 year old castle that a wonderfully friendly couple had bought and renovated into a handful of guest rooms.
You've got to get off the main road and head up a winding dirt road that isn't it great shape but gets you to the hotel.
The rooms have lots of exposed rock and the floors are heated - the washrooms are nice and the dining room and fireplace are comfy and cozy!
They did offer to make dinner but we decided to eat in town so they gave us great directions to some local places.
The view from the room is astounding as it sits atop a hill overlooking miles and miles of farmland. You can even see the castle fortress of San Leo nearby.
It was a very cold night and it would've been nice to have had a heater in the room but there were extra blankets.
Breakfast was a pleasant affair, our hostess made fresh eggs for us and there were was lots of juice, hot tea and fresh bread and buns.
We only stayed for one night - but I could've stayed there forever!!!!
