Not what it appeared to be online

Posted 28-Apr-2016
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Staff courtesy, room safety. No safes in room, no bars on window when all other areas have bars. Insufficient lock on room door, no deadbolt, etc.
Location: Up a hill, a ways away from the city, which should be nice. Taj Mahal restaurant across the street, which is great.
When we arrived at this hotel, we thought it was abandoned - no lights on the outside. Upon entering the compound, I told the person greeting us I was glad to be there. He replied, "You are? Why?" I thought that was a very strange way to be greeted. He took us up to our room, passing by the office and the breakfast room, all of which had bars on the window. Our room, though, had no bars and a bathroom-door style lock, no deadbolt or chain. My wife said she didn't feel secure in the room. She went to the person who greeted us, and told him she didn't think the room was secure, and he just folded his arms and told her "It is secure!" He said they had 10 cameras throughout the property, and someone watches them all night, but we didn't believe him. We ended up leaving and going to a much nicer hotel just up the road. They refused to refund our stay, and told us that the hotel is always full and that they have never had a problem there. We only saw one other guest there. This property just felt strange, and we were not comfortable there, so we left. When we called Expedia to discuss it with them, they called the hotel, and the hotel told them that we had been dealing with the night receptionist, and that the manager Fernando would be back tomorrow, but in fact it was Fernando who had checked us in. I won't go back and I don't recommend this property. We visit this area frequently, and I wanted to try a different property on this trip, but I was very disappointed

Their hotel manager Fernando just couldn't be more helpful with anything, everything. Lauren prepares breakfasts and is in site for anything but just a truly safe and comfortable boutique hotel

Out of Bounds Hotel

Posted 19-Oct-2015
Pros: Proximity to my appointments and vertually everything in Escazu
Cons: Perhaps I am spoiled, but tv was as small as computer monitor.
Location: This hotel was convenient to shops, resturants and other features in Escazu. They would book trips to various attractions if you required.
Conveniently located, clean and private. This was an excellent choice if you do not require a large chain hotel facilities. This is a small Boutique hotel with limited aminities. Very private and accomodating. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean, cute and perfect for me as I was in Escazu for dental work and could walk to my apointment in less than five minutes.

Unexpected, affordable comfort....and great staff!

What a gem for a small boutique hotel....clean room, fabulous staff, plentiful choice of breakfast, easy to book attractions, on main bus line (easy). Walking distance to restaurants in Escazu. Hotel manager Fernando will make you feel right at home and help with anything from ordering take out or sohwing you where best to get a spectacular view of Sano Jose and the valley. I was in town for a DentaVac dental vacation (excellent quality and affordable) and the hotel couldn't have been more convenient. It's one of the hotels recommended by DentaVac too. The only drawback is no pool to lounge in but the front breakfast room and shared kitchen area offer plenty of room and the wifi is strong throughout the hotel, even outside. Some of the upper rooms have that spectacular view travelers write about. It is truly impressive. Only caution and it's not about the hotel: bring one of those little flashlights with you because most areas in Escazu have either broken sidewalks or no sidewalks and numerous holes and ditches. You don't eant to start your vacation with a limp! Thx

Loved this small hotel. We sat outside and enjoyed the lights of the city at night.
