Newly Remodeled Loft in Lower Nob Hill by RedAwning

Beautiful loft located on lower Nob Hill. Cable Car, Union Square and

Fisherman's Wharf are within walking distance. Great international

restaurants, shopping and theaters close by. There is a private garage, and

the house has easy access to Marin and Chrissy Field.



This is a brick building from 1914 that has been updated for the 21st Century.

This property was home to renowned interior designer Robert Hutchinson for

nearly 50 years. Mr. Hutchinson bought the property in 1961 and turned the

first floor into his studio, while he lived upstairs. The second story, where

you will be staying, has seen many designs over the years. Once, it was

Chinese red, another time it was black. When it was featured in Architectural

Digest in 1986, the walls and ceilings were tan and the flat was filled with

tribal art from around the globe. There will be vintage magazines on site

that show the projects of Mr. Hutchinson.



Upon inheriting this home in 2008, the property was retrofitted for

earthquakes, all electrical was modernized, and two retail spaces reimagined

from 2009-2011. Presently, the home blends extraordinary pieces by Robert

Hutchinson with a mid-century modern, urban vibe. This original furniture by

Mr. Hutchinson includes the dining room table, the black couch, the petrified

wood display table, and the kitchen and bedroom tables. Also, as the house

was being remodeled, many elements were preserved from the '86 design, namely,

the master bedroom suite with fireplace, the entryway and vanities in both

bathrooms.



The flat is just over 2,000 square feet. There is an enormous master suite

and a smaller guest bedroom. The living room is spacious and the kitchen is

state of the art. There are two full baths and a roof top deck with orchids

and succulent plants.

Lovely home in a great location

The place was very tastefully decorated and is in a great location. We were able to walk to restaurants, public transportation. Steve was very responsive to my questions. Enjoyed our stay- would recommend!

Good for two for a few days

The apartment was located close to everything downtown Asheville and within 2 miles of the arts district. The space was well laid out, very clean and comfortable.

Great Location!

Steve was a great host. We rented a car and he was very accommodating to let us use the garage during our stay. Upon arrival, he met us at the rental and gave us a brief tour of the place and where/how certain things were and worked. The rental is very close to Union Square, Fisherman's Wharf and even a short drive to Sausalito and Tiburon. Highly recommend!

Wonderful holiday weekend

We recently stayed at the Sutter Street apartment and truly enjoyed it. The location is close to bus and tram lines but also easy to walk to many parts of the city. The apartment is bright and comfortable and its decor is art/architecture inspired. The bonus of course, is the deck. We were able to sit outside each morning enjoying breakfast, the beautiful weather, and the occasional sightings of humming birds eating from the variety of orchids surrounding the deck. Steve and Robert are generous and accommodating hosts.

Pleasant convenient place for a visit to San Francisco

My husband and I and two friends stayed here for seven days. We very much enjoyed our stay. It is a mere 1.2 miles from Fisherman's Wharf and closer to Ghirardelli's Chocolate Shop! The living space is on one floor about 20 steps above street level, except for the back patio which is a few steps higher. There is an attached garage also at street level in the back which was very convenient. Also, there is laundry in the unit. Most importantly, the mattress was comfortable and there was adequate hot water in the showers. Very few negatives--there is no bathtub, only two showers. I was in San Francisco for a dance convention and never thought to ask if there was a bathtub to soak my sore feet. Also, oddly, there is no door to the master bedroom. Our friends occupied the smaller bedroom in the front of the unit but one uses a CPAP machine and the other gets up several times a night. After the first night I used ear plugs and that solved the problem. I would highly recommend this unit for a stay in San Francisco. David (and three friends) stayed October 14-21, 2015
