View the gorgeous geyser, many sandy stretches and tiny islets of this scenic archipelago, with a fascinating history, on the Caribbean Sea.
San Andrés y Providencia is an archipelago comprising two groups of mesmerizing coral islands. Its intriguing history is entwined with English heritage, while remaining politically Colombian. Scuba dive along the spectacular coral reef and encounter diverse terrain as you move around the region.
Explore white-sand bays surrounding San Andrés, including secluded Cayo Bolívar. Boat to the forested islet of Cotton Cay for beaches and calm water or swim in the blue-green waters off San Luis Beach and Spratt Bight.
In the southern part of the island is the remarkable El Hoyo Soplador Geyser. Play in the wall of spraying water. Travel west to Morgan’s Cave, where legend says a pirate buried his treasure.
Wander through the island’s quaint old town to see impressive colonial buildings, such as the Baptist Church. Visit the wooden Island House Museum on the outskirts of town to see traditional period furniture and décor.
The quiet island of Providencia is a 15-minute flight from San Andrés. Explore the picturesque terrain of the Peak Forestry Reserve. Relax on the pristine Manzanillo Beach and enjoy cocktails, seafood and reggae music from its bar.
Stroll across the colourful wooden Bridge of Lovers on the northern part of Providencia to reach the smaller islet of Santa Catalina. From here explore the coral reefs of Old Providence McBean Lagoon National Park. Ride a boat to the park’s scenic Crab Caye, a regional highlight.
The islands’ intriguing past has led to a spoken language of blended English, Spanish and Creole. Expect a tropical climate with hot temperatures year-round and a dry season from February through May.
Although the islands belong to Colombia, they are geographically closer to Nicaragua and other Central American countries. San Andrés is 480 miles (780 kilometres) north of the Colombian coast. Fly to the Gustavo Rojas Pinilla International Airport in the town of San Andrés.
San Andrés y Providencia is an oasis of islets with sublime beaches, caves and Caribbean flair.

"Had I known I will have a room without a window I would have never booked the stay. It’s not a hotel and definitely not 4 star as it states online. The place was sterile and clean but the sheets were half way stripped down when I got there and it is one of the most depressing places I have ever stayed. ..."
