The best area to stay in Ruhla is the town centre, particularly around the Markt and the Ruhlaer Winkel.

This area is the heart of Ruhla, offering easy access to local amenities and the starting points for many walking trails. The Markt, or market square, is a central point with historic buildings and access to local shops and eateries. The Ruhlaer Winkel is a charming section of town where you'll find a more traditional feel.

For couples seeking a relaxing break with a focus on nature and local culture, staying in the town centre is ideal. You'll be within walking distance of attractions like the Uhrenmuseum (Clock Museum) and have convenient access to the scenic hiking paths that lead directly from the town into the Thuringian Forest.

Families will also find the town centre convenient. Many guesthouses and hotels offer family-friendly accommodation, and the proximity to local parks and the starting points for forest adventures means children can easily explore the outdoors.

The best time to go to Ruhla is during the spring (April to May) or autumn (September to October) months for pleasant weather and outdoor activities.

During spring, the Thuringian Forest awakens with lush greenery and blooming flowers, making it ideal for hiking and cycling. Temperatures are generally mild, ranging from 10°C to 20°C, great for exploring the numerous trails around the area without the summer crowds. This is a great time for couples who enjoy scenic walks and nature photography.

Autumn also offers comfortable temperatures, typically between 8°C and 15°C, and the landscape transforms with stunning autumnal colours. This season is particularly good for those interested in longer hikes and enjoying the crisp air. Families might appreciate the quieter trails and the chance to experience local harvest festivals in nearby villages.
