Royken Travel Guide

Tourist Guide

Royken

The region offers magnificent Norwegian nature, with the opportunity to experience the seaside, hikes in the forest and excellent fishing sites.

A holiday in Røyken allows you to learn about the unique geology of the area, which attracts scientists from around the globe. For those travelling with children, there are numerous beaches to choose from. If you enjoy the outdoors, why not walk up to the Blåfjellhytta cabin in Kjekstadmarka. If you want more urban experiences, Drammen and Oslo are only a short train-ride away.

Røyken is a municipality in Buskerud, situated on the Hurumlandet peninsula. The area is home to several nature reserves, such as Gråøya naturreservat and Dyna naturreservat. The historic Oldtidsveien path that passes through Røyken, links Drammensfjorden in the west with Oslofjorden in the east. The path is well worth a visit and has been used since ancient times.

You can look forward to many activities and experiences when visiting Røyken. Visit Slemmestad Geologisenter (Slemmestad Geology Centre) to see fossils and rocks from the prehistoric era, or Villingstadparken besøkshage (Villingstadparken Open Gardens), which contain more than 500 plant species. A visit to Slemmestad Cement Museum, one of the most important employers in the region, allows you to learn about the history of the factory.

There are many excellent hiking opportunities in the area, so pack your hiking boots and backpack if you want to experience Norwegian nature. Practise your golf swing at Kjekstad Golf Club, which enjoys an idyllic location in a forest area with mountains, lakes and rich wildlife. Røyken has a wide range of options for accommodation.

Røyken is centrally located, only 20 miles from Oslo and 10 miles from Drammen, making it easy to get to from the UK. Excellent train links run to the surrounding cities, but hiring a car is recommended for your stay so you can get around the area easily.

Røyken offers quiet holidays that can be filled with hikes in the forest and countryside or lazy enjoyment on beaches. You can visit the larger towns in the surrounding area for more active experiences.

The water was water logging in the shower area. The heater was not effective enough to keep the room warm through the night. The mats in the room were a little dirty. Overall I would have liked the hotel management to give a little care on these smaller things.

Utilities and basic things like hairdryer and blind shutters didn’t work. Did not make it the most comfortable stay. Quite a rough area so just be careful travelling around the bridge area at night
