As others have said, it is an odd check-in experience. Your in a lobby with vending machines and an ATM, and do an automated check in that was straight forward and delivers your keys. The entrance is on the left side of the building outside the lobby, and you do have to climb a flight of stairs to the rooms. The place feels totally empty. But the room is clean as can be, has all the essentials, storage, windows that open for fresh air and a nice shower. And you're staying inside the Rothenberg wall! In the morning you go downstairs and see other travelers and have a lovely buffet breakfast and made to order eggs. The woman who maintains the buffet is kind and helpful, and suddenly the hotel is a welcoming place! The housekeeper was also pleasant.

This was a great location for exploring Rothenburg’s walled historic town. Basic but very clean and tidy room & bathroom with a simple self check-in process.

Quiet, convenient place inside Oldtown
This hotel more than met our expectations! The breakfast was tasty with many options for coffee or drinks. There was cereal, bread, multiple kinds of meat and cheese, yogurt, spreads, and hot eggs available. The room was clean, updated, welcoming, and comfortable. The staff were very friendly, answered any questions we had, whether in person or via email. The hotel is conveniently located within the walls, near a handful of delicious bakeries, restaurants, cafes, and the Christmas Markets. We will definitely stay here next time we are in Rothenburg ob der Tauber!

The Best Ever
This place is amazing! You are required to use a kiosk to get into the hotel, which left us a little concerned prior to our stay. There is no staff present to check you in. However, When we got there, it was as easy as using an ATM. The key to my sister's room got stuck, but when we called, staff was there within 5 minutes to help us out. That was the end of any drama. Mike is the owner of the hotel and I think he got all of his training at Dick's Last Resort wher the staff picks on you at every chance they get. Mike made us laugh every morning. The breakfast was most excellent, the rooms were huge for a guest house, with plenty of storage, and everything was clean. But most importantly, the service was amazing! We left feeling like we had made a new friend. He introduced us to the entire family. He spent time chatting with us, and even purchased some mayonaise when my brother in law mentioned that he wished it had been available. Great location, great hotel, amazing Family!

Rooms were newly remodeled and nice, breakfast was also great. The kiosk for checking in was quite nice, I thought! The staff were friendly and kind! Would definitely recommend it here and will stay here again! Thank you!

Mike was a great host and breakfast provider when we visited for a couple nights August 2023. Beautiful walkable town we particularly enjoyed the quiet morning walks outside along the wall and down to the river part of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimedge path.

Perfect for a couple nights in a great location
Overall enjoyed my time at the hotel. The location was great and had just what I needed for a 2 night stay. The appearance inside is a bit dated but that goes with the town and it was clean and comfortable. The fan in the room was a nice touch. Breakfast was good and the staff were very nice and friendly! Would book again if in Rothenburg in the future.

Property has just opened so they are working out some kinks. Nice area but chek in is via machine and no one to answer questions. Like where to park after paying for parking. I was lucky to guess right. Breakfast was good and owner nice and helpful. Just not there when checking in

This was such a great place to stay in Rothenburg!! Great location, the hostess was so sweet and kind, breakfast was small but yummy and had great choices, it’s the most charming building, and overall so wonderful! I’d love to stay here again if I’m ever back!

Depressing outdated basic room
First the good... Downstairs cafe looks great.. excellent lighting. Breakfast was adequate... continental breakfast with cold cuts, breads, fruit and coffee. Upstairs were the rooms. Room was dated and old...faded carpets, old furniture. The couch could have come straight off a dumpster. Toiletries were sparse and insufficient...one time packs. Bed frame was old as well, but the sheets looked laundered. Pillow was this giant big soft pillow. Location was inside the old town with a public parking space close by (5.50 Eu). They have no parking.

Nice stay.
Was there for the Christmas Market. Checkin was fast and a friendly lady. Room was nice and big and clean. No problems at all there. Breakfasts was good and plentiful. Have stayed here a few times in the passed and will do so again.

We booked for 3 adults, 1 bed was actually a childs portable bed. The support slats fell out, very uncomfortable. TV completely non functioning, no signal on any channel. Housekeeping came in early in morning.

Great location, tiny rooms.
Nice location with in the fort. Rooms are small, ideal for lean folks. Basic breakfast served free. Car park available at the Hotel for a fee, the road side car park available from 6pm to 9am without a fee but not easy to find.

Positives: - Room had plenty of space and the bed was comfortable - Breakfast was good ... very German, but more than enough choice, and very filling - Good location ... short walk to the marketplatz, plus there's access stairs to the city wall just a block away Challenges: - Parking is very limited ... we scored a spot on the street for free overnight, but pay parking for the same spot started at 9 the next morning. Best option is Lot 4 just outside the city walls, as a 24-hour day pass is 5.50 Euros - We were on the first floor overlooking the Galgenstrasse, which is a cobblestone street ... room was very room and the only cooling option was open windows. Lots and lots of road noise through the night, which we solved with ear plugs (saved from our flight in) - Bathroom was small, and the shower is about the same size as a phone booth (for those of us who remember those). The main challenge for me was taking a shower while my wife laughed at me :)

This property is amazingly located to explore Rothenburg. Everything was within walking distance, and there’s parking available there / within a short walk. Our room was comfortable and well equipped for our 2 night stay. The breakfast was really good, and staff were super friendly. We’d definitely come again!

Great location walking distance to all attractions. Room was small but sufficient for sleeping. Checkin was confusing. We arrived prior to check in and Was initially told there was parking out back for 6 euros and to pay later. Left our car and came back for checkin was then told we could not park out back and had to move our car to a public lot down the street. We paid under 6 euros. Language was a bit of a barrier in this process.

The woman who greeted us was so kind and welcoming. I love this little town and would definitely stay at Hocher again. The rooms are nothing extraordinary but all needs are met (note: no irons!) If you do stay, choose room 1 because that view is much better than our view of the window of another room (I believe we had room 3). Quaint hotel in a quaint little town
