Each room overlooks a balcony, including the kitchen, habitable. The finishes are valuable. TV and free extra-fast Wi-Fi; air conditionig -heat pump in the dining room and air conditioning in the second bedroom. For more than four-five persons we can open a rhird bathroom, with shower and bathtube. There is a foam fire extinguisher and a gas detector in the kitchen. The apartment is located on the hill Gianicolo, between Trastevere and Vatican city, reachable on foot or by a short bus ride (44, 75, 870 and others), urban train FL3, taxi (big station less than 150 meters), in the elegant district called Monte Verde Vecchio. Excellent big supermarket and shops in the same street, another supermarket open until 10 pm, outdoor market in the parallel street. Elegant bars and patisseries, excellent restaurants and takeaways close by (50-200 meters). Three historical parks are the pride of the neighborhood: the Gianicolo Park, through which you can reach the Vatican with a walk from the wonderful view of Rome; villa Sciarra, which was donated to Mussolini who gave it to the Roman people, villa Pamphili, summer residence of the Popes from the 16th century. The Gianicolo is famous for its large 360-degree terrace on Rome with the monument to Garibaldi and his wife Anita and the busts of his soldiers (Garibaldi) and the war memorial in the defense of the Roman republic. Always on the Janiculum, the famous "fontanone" overlooks the city, and immediately after the church of San Pietro in Montorio, with the marvelous little temple of Bramante, the Spanish Academy with its exibitions and the American Academy. An the ancient staircase from there leads to Trastevere. The Gianicolensi Walls surround the Gianicolo hill and, at Porta San Pancrazio, in the four-sided arch, is housed the Garibaldi Museum, in memory of the Hero who fought for the defense of the Roman Republic in 1849\. The villa called "Il Vascello" because of its shape, has been left almost completely destroyed with the signs of the cannonades of the French by General Oudinot. From the Arch of the Janiculum, in Piazzale Aurelio, starts the Via Aurelia Antica, and a little further on is the early Christian Basilica of San Pancrazio (fifth century after Christ), with the catacombs not yet fully explored. In one part of the district the streets have maintained the Latin names (via Aurelia, via Vitellia, via Fonteiana, piazza Ottavilla, via del clivo Rutario). You will be at the heart of history. Check everything on internet maps and don't hesitate to ask me anything. The location is excellent for local eateries (we recommend Golino's and Tutto Qua) and convenient shops, and easy access to Trastevere and beyond. Maurizio is a very kind and generous host - his tour of the locale was a great way to get an overview of the area plus very useful information on being a tourist in Rome. Our host Maurizio, took us on personal tour of the neighbourhood including historical sites and eating places on checkin, he also gave detailed instructions regarding workings of the apartment. Bus 75 is at the gate which takes to the Termini railway station or you can connect with other buses around Rome. The host gave me a tour of the area, which was as good as any tour in Rome. It was ideal to walk out the front door and be able to walk across the street for coffee, dessert or any other meal Between the Quattro Venti train station, buses 75 and 44 along with being able to catch a cab, the location is ideal. There was a market and a bunch of restaurants nearby. All amenities worked great. There was even a diffuser attachment for the blow dryer (curly hair girls will understand!). Maurizio set up a private driver for us to and from the airport-super helpful! Only negative was the upstairs neighbor pounding on the floor above our bedroom at 12AM. Later found out it was because we had the air conditioner running. We were told we cannot have the air running from 8pm-8am. Our host (Maurizio) was wonderful. He was so thoughtful and responsive to our needs. Upon arriving in Rome he picked us up at the Trastevere Train Station and drove us to our apartment. After we freshened up he took us in his car on a tour of the area showing us all the significant sites and he gave us a thorough account of the history behind what we were seeing. On another occasion we were unable to get a taxi to our tour at the Colosseum and he drove us there. Maurizio is a very kind man and really interested in his guests! His apartment is not ultra modern but a true reflection of Italian decor with interesting furniture and beautiful paintings. This is a large, beautiful apartment in quiet Monteverde Vecchio, uncrowded by tourists, yet only a short walk to the nightlife of Trastevere and the foodie spots of Testaccio. The patisserie across the street was a lively and elegant spot for a cappuccino and cornetto, and several restuarants within a 5 minute walk were top notch.The apartment itself has everything you might need. Both bedrooms have large, comfortable beds. The living space has an old world feel with its 17th century paintings, a piano, and beautiful decorations along with a extensive and fascinating library. The sunroom is marvelous on a cool morning and the terrace was perfect for a glass of wine in the evenings!Perhaps best of all was Maurizio, our accomodating and friendly host. Maurizio grew up in this apartment, and retired from his career as a physician nearby, so he knows and loves the neighborhood. He took us in his car on a tour of the area, with interesting insights into the historical spots on the Janiculum Hill as well as the best places to shop and dine. The local restaurants were delightful and grocery stores abound to get supplies. There is a taxi stand within one block. I enjoy walking and liked the hilly walk to and from all parts of Rome and Trastevere. I could go on and on about how live-able Maurizio’s place is. His family home has everything we needed (I appreciate hangers, closets and drawer space when I unpack for a week). When you read all the rave reviews from everyone about what a phenomenal host he is, they are not exaggerating. Thank you Maurizio for all of your kindness and your spectacular “neighborhood tour”. Maurizio is a wonderful host and the apartment is spacious with large comfortable rooms. The neighborhood is safe with all the necessary conveniences in easy walking distance - grocery store, pharmacies, restaurants, bakeries, etc. Getting around was very easy. The railway station is nearby. There is a bus stop and a taxi stand right outside the apt building. We chose to walk into the city most days for site seeing. We did 27,000 steps one day, it is a steep hike up to Trastvere from down by the Tiber so its good exercise too. We would definitely return to this location. Maurizio is very generous with his time, he went out of his way to be certain we got what we needed. At one point I was at the grocery store and couldn't find nail clippers, I actually ran into him there and he was able to direct me to where I needed to buy them (they are sold at pharmacies not grocery stores). My dream has always been to live in Rome, like one more, like a Roman, to go to the supermarket, buy vegetables, fruits, meats, etc., and cook, drink wine, smile with my wife and children; enjoy life. That’s what I did; created memories. Waoooooooo this apartment has it all, the kitchen was super equipped had everything you needed to cook, it had everything to be comfortable. My wife and I slept comfortably, as did my two children, Supermarket less than 5 minutes walking, restaurants for when I didn't want to cook, desserts store, Gelateria, Taxi station all within 5 minutes. You are out of the caos of Rome but in Rome. We went to the Vatican Walking 30 minutes. Take in consideration that the apartment is in a hill so we spended money in Taxi every day about 30 euros to go to downtown Rome and come back but it's worth it: Be in Rome live like a Roman with out seen other tourist all around you in Monteverde we were the outsiders. (May 2024) The apartment is just as described and shown in the pictures, no hidden traps! The location is great for getting an impression of how Romans live away from the tourist tracks. Many shopping opportunities and eateries in the vicinity. Dolci desideri and Pizza Barilli are also great, don't leave without tasting their Cannolli and Supplí, respectively! The apartment is also ideally located for public transport. The apartment is just as shown in the pictures. Lots of character. Very well equipped. If you speak Italian and like Asterix or Topolino and Paperino, be warned that you may spend your vacation without leaving the building... The kitchen has a large gas range and electric oven and fully allows you to cater for yourself should you so wish. The bathroom we had was functional as well as having nice little tiles with a mother-of-pearl effect. Thanks to the very friendly cleaner, the apartment was spotlessly clean. As for the host, we can add very little to what has already been said in the other reviews. Maurizio is an extremely generous and flexible host. He gave as valuable tips without crowding us in any way. He is a gentleman, what more needs to be said? On no account miss his tour of the surrounding area. We based our decision to book with Maurizio based on the amazing reviews we read for his rental apartment and he more than lived up to our expectations. First, he began communicating with us soon after booking (which was almost a year prior to our travel). A few weeks before our trip he sent us so much information on Rome, Roman culture and articles of great interest. Maurizio was so kind to allow us to check in a few hours early. He gave such perfect instructions that were easy to follow and very specific tips on not getting scammed by Taxi’s. We followed his instructions and waited for us outside the apartment. We immediately felt like we were being greeted by a friend! The pictures on his posting (although beautiful) can’t fully show the beauty of the apartment. It was so much more amazing than we had expected. It is huge and unbelievably gorgeous. It has everything you could ask for and more. The beds are very comfortable and the balconies are a dream. After we checked-in, he said he’d be back in a few hours to show us around. Maurizio spent almost 3 hours driving us around the local area and telling us so much history it was unbelievable. What a kind and wonderful man who shared his passion for Roma with us is something we’ll never forget. I wish I could write more I'm running out of space.
