The room was clean and very spacious, with modern sinks, toilet, and showers. The bed was very comfortable, true to other reviews. Food at the resort is very good, though cocktails were a little disappointing for the price. Make sure you take the offered jungle hike and wear decent sneakers or hiking boots. It is absolutely gorgeous and we had fun for a couple of hours taking in every trail we could (don’t worry, there are shortcut trails too). We were frequently amazed that even on the trails that somewhere forty years ago, people put in all those pavers and tables and chairs in the woods! The front desk/reception has a whole book of tours you can sign up for including horseback riding and rafting, etc. We only stayed a couple of days so we just took in and enjoyed the property, hiked a lot, used the pool table, and stared at the magnificent scenery. For people who want to get away from it all for a few days, this is a great place to do so. Rio Perdido offers quiet luxury in a very natural environment. The staff were fantastic- nothing was too much trouble and they were so friendly and kind. We stayed n an eat bungalow which was perfect for a couple or family of 3- huge bed, couch to chill on, lots of storage, good size bathroom and cute deck with hammocks where we sat and watched the monkeys playing in the trees. The food was delicious with lots of choices for all meals and daily specials. The setting of the hotel is spectacular- set in the forest with lots of areas for hiking and animal spotting. The highlight was the thermal river- I’ve never experienced anything like it- 3 natural thermal pools in the river where the water is fed from the nearby volcano- the hottest pool was like a hot bath! The swimming pools in the hotel are also fed from the river and therefore warm- great for relaxing but a bit small and warm for actual swimming. The hotel offers lots of activities- we did the river tubing which was great fun, and the complimentary hike and yoga( in the beautiful yoga studio in the forest). It’s quite pricey ( converting from GBP) but worth it for a few days of real relaxation in a unique location. Paid for two for breakfast. In the morning only one could eat breakfast because the other was sick. Asked for a refund for the one, two weeks later never received it compensation. Also Couldn’t even open my balcony door because the outside smell of sewage. Paper thin walls where you could hear everything next door…Too bad as place has potential.
