Lodge 16 has a great location and isn’t overlooked. The price you pay for that privacy is hauling your luggage and provisions up two lots of steep, rough steps. There’s no easy option to park nearer and drop stuff off unless you can use lodge 17’s parking area to cut out one of the sets of steps. The lodge is well appointed and generally well maintained. However the decking needs replacing since it’s rotten in places, warped and with pieces sticking up. The floor inside also needs attention especially in the kitchen area where it’s bowing up and the floorboards are separating. This sounds like a list of gripes but overall really enjoyed the stay, being able to sit out in the evening and listen to the sparrow hawk (which appeared twice on the balcony) and then the tawny owls later as it went dark. Great location for exploring and an easy walk or drive back into Richmond.
