Redwood National and State Parks is a fascinating natural destination. Gaze up at tall centuries-old redwood trees, explore rugged Pacific Coast beaches, camp beneath the stars and spot myriad wildlife. The parks cover 133,000 acres (53,800 hectares) and stretch for 40 miles (64 kilometres) along California’s picturesque northern coast. The parks include Redwood National Park and three state parks: Jedediah Smith, Del Norte Coast and Prairie Creek Redwoods State Parks. Navigate through the parks via car or bike. Take short or long walks on Fern Canyon Trail, Lady Bird Johnson Grove Loop or Boy Scout Tree Trail. See ferns clinging to grottos on the sides of canyons. Don’t be surprised to feel like you have shrunk in size as you stroll amid the soaring redwoods. Drive along or hike the Coastal Drive for views of the Pacific Ocean and Klamath River. Howland Hill Road winds through one of the parks’ most picturesque old-growth redwood forests. Visit the parks’ Pacific coastline beaches and isolated coves. Paddle in tidal pools at Enderts Beach, watch surfers at Crescent Beach and enjoy quiet walks on Gold Bluffs Beach. For more of a challenge, explore the parks’ on kayaks along the Klamath River Estuary. The parks are delightful natural attractions. Stay alert for herds of Roosevelt elk in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. See endangered birds such as the bald eagle and northern spotted owl. Spot migrating whales from the Crescent Beach Overlook. The parks are about a 5-hour drive from either San Francisco or Portland, Oregon. Find information centres at five entrances to the parks. (1,001 reviews) The hotel was walking distance from Beverly Drive and Rodeo, a nice plus. The staff were really nice people always willing to help. There was no food available for dinning or snacks. They had a small filtered water machine in the lobby to fill cups or bottles. They had a small bar in the lobby that served only hot coffee drinks, no alcohol or other. Ice or microwave was available if asked. The place has an elevator, very small, and slow, and dated. The location is off the beaten path and quiet. It’s not a flashy place but comfortable. The room could use some improvements. The shower was huge but had just one Little corner shelf to put your soap and such. Very small sink and top. The lighting was very low to dim, hard to see if shaving or makeup. The heat/AC pump worked well but it was placed right over the bed where if you fell asleep with it on you could cook or freeze to death. The television had no guide or any way to find channels easily. No welcome info, tv guide, instructions to follow, or ideas for anything to give you a sense of whats around you or things to do. All in all the place has some nice features but much is dated and could be improved. The price was expensive for what we got but location was great for walking and getting around. Also they do have secure parking across the street for $40 a day.
