"The lodge was clean, modern. The staff was friendly, and I appreciated the good breakfast every morning, along with the always available warm coffee and tea in the lobby. They also offered warm cookies upon arrival. The location was very convenient, within walking distance to a shopping center that had a Thai restaurant, a grocery store, and several other businesses. There were also many places to eat within a short driving distance. The lodge was a good base for sightseeing and outdoor activities to Blowing Rock, Blue Ridge Parkway, and Grandfather Mountain, The main issue during our stay was the hot water. For most of the trip, the shower water kept going from hot to warm and then cold. When I first mentioned it to the front desk, one of the employees explained that the lodge had two water heaters and that when there were many guests, the water temperature could fluctuate. I found that explanation a bit unusual since I’ve never experienced that before, The day before we left, I went back to the front desk and a different girl inmediately contacted maintenance, they discovered there was actually a problem with one of the water heaters, and after that the issue was fixed, Another small downside was that the room did not have a comfortable chair. Despite the hot water issue, the hotel was clean, comfortable, and had several nice amenities with friendly staff. Unfortunately, the water heater issue took away a lot of the comfort and enjoyment to the stayed."
"This was such a cozy cabin in an idyllic location. The views were gorgeous and the peace unmatched. The porch was the best part - since it rained most of the weekend, we got to hang out on the porch and be outside (even made s'mores!) while staying dry. I wasn't quite prepared for how steep the hill to the house was, but other than that it was a wonderful time."
Highland Hills Motel and Cabins – A Master Hosts Resort
6/10 Okay
"This was a unique experience with pros and cons. Only stayed one night with family as we were just visiting for the one day. The location was convenient enough to access Boone and other area communities. The attempt to update an older motel was clever and attractive. The cabins behind us looked beautiful. Our rooms seemed in mid update. The front office was located in a older looking traditional motel. If it was not raining/and foggy there was probably a nice view of the tree lined mountaintops around the facility. There were amenities outside(grills, picnic tables) if the weather was nicer or staying longer. The staff were friendly in the office.
Pros - the log cabin look, fireplace, private balcony, spacious room,
Cons - the carpet and bathroom needed updating (tears and burn marks, cracked tile), broken blinds, no lock on balcony door, very minimal amenities in room (no shampoo/conditioner, no firewood).
Might stay again but would like to see the items above updated."
"The staff was the best we ever experienced. Very helpful and awesome service. We enjoyed the outside tables and firepit. We got a pizza to go and brought our beverages and it was very peaceful with our goldendoodles. The room and balcony was excellent. Very quiet stay. I would go back to Boone just to stay here."
