Historic Thomas Chapel house - Half mile from Downtown Boone

  • Update: The chapel is fully functional and welcoming guests following Helene!

    Thomas Chapel was originally built in Watauga county near Tennessee in 1886 . decommissioned in 1967 and then bought in 1977 as a Mother's day gift for a former member of the church . It was taken apart and reassembled in her backyard. Her great grandson later converted the chapel to what is now the comfortable sanctuary located in a private valley on the outskirts of Boone. The church has been turned into a home which boasts a bell tower and 30 foot vaulted ceiling complete with the original hand hewn structural timbers. Nestled in a scenic hollow with a mountain stream and woods on one side and farmland on the other. Half a mile from downtown Boone, this private chapel is conveniently located 1 mile from Appalachian States Campus, and 20 minutes from 2 of the areas finest ski resorts. Come and experience a piece of high country history.

Daniel took great care of us in this beautiful historic property that has been in his family for generations. Super easy access to downtown Boone, and a gateway to other areas such as Blowing Rock and Valle Cruces. More than enough room and amenities for a romantic getaway. Would definitely stay here again!

Great getaway. Thomas Chapel was perfect home base just following Easter. Went to Grandfather Mt for day trip, ate at some great local restaurants. Host was great help with top notch communication. Clean, cool history of the chapel. Would recommend this for a great place to stay!

Enjoyed tea by the cozy fireplace; lounged on the comfortable couches reading...we didn't want to leave. Daniel provided everything we could need for our short stay. A Very Special Place

The history of the property, the craftsmanship of the build, the accommodations, the cleanliness and attention to detail as well as the location are all 10 out of 10.
