"A beautiful farmhouse shaped like a fortress just outside of Calitri. The host is very accommodating and helped me make some reservations despite not speaking English/my Italian being no good. Waking up to the birds was a treat, the bed was cozy and the shower worked well. It would be fun to have a bunch of friends stay there for a week. Definitely requires a car, I thought maybe one could walk in and out of Calitri but it's an enormous vertical distance, it would take hours."

Hotel Bouganville

10/10 Excellent

"The best full-service hotel in the neighborhood, with friendly English-speaking concierge, commanding views of Picerno and road connections to the rest of the province."

Hotel La Pergola

10/10 Excellent

"We were the only foreign tourists (that we knew of) at the hotel and were treated like locals. It was a very pleasant experience. The location of Hotel LaPergola is PERFECT! A ten minute walk to the central piazza and some amazing food and gelato. The room was clean, well prepared, and spacious. We walked from the train station to the hotel, a little difficult because of the cobble stone streets, but would do it over and over again for the kind staff, great views, location, and delicious café! Thank you so much for a pleasant stay!"

Hotel il Castagneto Melfi

10/10 Excellent

"We are driving around southern italy just using expedia day by day. We happend upon this little gem. We booked aprox 1hr before showing up. The manager greeted us. He takes great pride in his work. The entire staff was top shelf. If you are near Emelfi this place is a must stay!! At the pool the manager checked in with us. At aperif time on the patio he came by, at dinner inside he came to check on us 2 times and at breakfast he was sweeping floors with the staff. We were very impressed!!! Gorgeous grounds, super clean rooms and our terrace over looked the back pool area."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Rapone?

For a truly authentic and comfortable stay in Rapone, the best area is within the historic centre of the village.

This area is characterised by narrow, winding streets, traditional stone houses, and small piazzas. It's very compact and walkable, with the main piazza, Piazza Michele Lapenna, serving as a central point where you'll find the local church and a few small shops and eateries. Staying here means being right at the heart of daily village life.

Couples looking for a quiet and romantic getaway will find the historic centre ideal. The tranquil atmosphere, the chance to enjoy local cuisine at a leisurely pace, and the opportunity for scenic walks through the village and surrounding countryside make it a superb fit. You're also well-placed for exploring nearby natural parks and historical sites.

Families looking for a relaxed holiday will also appreciate the historic centre. The pedestrian-friendly streets mean children can explore freely, and the local community is very welcoming.

When is the best time to go to Rapone?

The best time to visit Rapone is during the late spring (May to early June) or early autumn (September to October) when the weather is pleasant and the rural landscape is at its most inviting.

These periods offer warm, sunny days without the intense heat of mid-summer, making it ideal for exploring the surrounding countryside and nearby historical sites. You'll find comfortable temperatures for outdoor activities like walking or cycling through the Melfi area, known for its Norman castles and ancient villages.

Couples looking for a peaceful escape will particularly appreciate these shoulder seasons. The vineyards and olive groves are lush, and the local trattorias often feature seasonal produce.
