This Blue Flag beach is less busy than others in the area but is known for its diving feature. Treat yourself by snorkeling or diving in these interesting waters.
Calpe’s Puerto Blanco Beach is a compact size of 328 feet (100 metres) long and 32 feet (10 metres) wide and is a favoured destination for divers. The rocky bottom is a rich habitat for flora and fauna that’s not found at other nearby beaches making it one of the best in the area for underwater activities. If you prefer to swim or just be beside the water, the Mediterranean Sea is calm at this location by being contained in a cove, thereby making it ideal for families. At one end of the coarse sand beach is Puerto Blanco marina, which provides further protection from the waves. Gaze upon the large geological formation, Peñón de Ifach, which has a dominant presence over the beach and most of Calpe.
This limestone outcropping, rising 1,089 feet (332 metres), has an interesting history of having had an ancient civilisation that archaeologists continue to study on site. Its protected status also makes it a marvellous place to view sea birds and plant life. Plan to hike this attraction for a stunning view of the Costa Blanca shoreline, but have the correct footwear, sunscreen and water.
Puerto Blanco Beach is easily accessible from Calpe, which lies directly behind it and where you may want to consider a meal or beverage, or go to the snack bar located on the beach during the summer. Walk a mile (2 kilometres) inland to the picturesque old section of town and amble through its narrow streets with immaculate buildings. Look for the colourful mosaics and murals on the walls and even on the ground.
