On the right bank of the Tagus river, where there was once the beach of Bethlehem, it was originally surrounded by water around its perimeter. Over the centuries it was surrounded by the beach, even today incorporate the land. Over time the tower lost its defense function of the Tagus bar and, from the Philippine occupation, old barns gave way to the dungeons.
