The best area to stay in Pirgos is the village centre, particularly around the main square, for its convenience and access to local life.

The village centre of Pirgos is the heart of the community. It's a compact area with narrow, winding streets that lead to the central square, where you'll find the local kafenion and a few tavernas. The iconic Venetian Tower, which gives the village its name, stands prominently nearby. This area is great for those who appreciate being amidst local culture and having amenities within easy reach.

Couples looking for a peaceful and authentic Greek experience will find the village centre ideal. You can enjoy quiet evenings at local tavernas, stroll through the historic streets, and wake up to the sounds of village life. It's a wonderful base for exploring the surrounding countryside and nearby beaches by day, returning to a relaxed setting in the evening.

For travellers seeking a bit more seclusion while still being close to the village's offerings, staying on the outskirts of Pirgos, just a short walk from the centre, can be a good option. Here, you'll often find villas or guesthouses with more space and perhaps a private pool, offering a calm retreat after a day of exploring.

The best time to go to Pirgos, Crete, is during the shoulder seasons of May, early June, or September.

These months offer pleasant weather, with warm temperatures great for exploring the island's sights without the intense heat and larger crowds of the peak summer months. You'll find the sea warm enough for swimming, and the natural landscape is at its most beautiful, with blooming wildflowers in spring and golden hues in autumn.

For couples seeking a relaxing escape, May and September are particularly appealing. The fewer visitors mean a more intimate experience at archaeological sites like the Minoan Palace of Knossos, and you'll find it easier to secure reservations at popular local tavernas. The slightly cooler evenings are also ideal for a stroll through Pirgos's charming village streets or along the coast.

Families travelling with children might find early June to be the sweet spot. The weather is consistently warm, great for beach days, but the school holidays haven't fully begun, so attractions and beaches are less crowded than in July and August.
