Lost Horizon Resort - Khao Sok

10/10 Excellent

"Gorgeous hotel in the most epic surrounding scenery. Cannot stress enough how wonderful all the staff were, they were so knowledgable about local wildlife and were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are gorgeous and private and very clean. The restaurant food was delicious - only thing that could be improved was if there was more choice between lunch and dinner. The manager of the hotel was also very chatty and friendly. By far the best part of our experience was getting to see a wild bull elephant wander down the river next to the hotel buildings being carefully tracked by rangers. It really was the most special experience. The hotel itself was super quiet when we visited so it was as peaceful and zen as it’s possible to get. We also did the hotel’s offering of a guided nighttime safari in the local Khao Sok National Park which was also incredible from start to finish. Cannot stress enough how much it is worth it to stay here, have recommended it to anyone who will listen! We hope to come back one day in the future!"

"When you visit Khao Sok or Cheow Lan Lake, the thing to do is stay in one of these raft houses. You’ll take a long tail boat from the dam area to the raft house, which depending on the time of year, you may get rained on. Praiwan Raft house is great because it’s a more authentic experience and is more tucked away in the park, right near where many of the wildlife tours are, so there are animals right next to you. Some people saw a male elephant from their raft house while we were there, and we saw a whole troop of langer monkeys. The staff at praiwan are great, and the accommodations are very clean. However, do note that this is a more rustic place, and there is no power in the individual rooms until evening, at which point there is a fan but no AC. Bathrooms are present in the rooms. My wife and I had a great experience there just hanging out and being in nature. You can swim in the lake or take one of their kayaks out. I would recommend booking directly through Praiwan (or expedia/booking) not one of the tour operators, as the tour programming is included in your hotel stay. We booked through Expedia and paid a lot less than if we booked through a tour operator and still got a guide nature walk, boat tours, etc just for being guests at the hotel. Definitely recommend this place"

"We truly felt like we were in the heart of the jungle, with all the positives you would expect that to bring, and a few negatives too. The sights and sounds of the wildlife are inescapable and breathtaking, with memorable views particularly at sun up or sun down. Some of the facilities are at the mercy of the elements, with ‘outdoor feeling’ shower and bathroom. There were very minor communication difficulties around the breakfast ordering. The menu seems to be updated every day, and is a series of dishes from hot ‘Americano style’ eggs and bacon, to a granola and yogurt course and a fruit platter. The food was excellent, but didn’t offer choice so fussy eaters may struggle at breakfast. Navigating the property with its slightly precarious walkways and steps would be next to impossible for those with physical disabilities, but disorder a Robinson Crusoe type feel. "

"This place is a MUST STAY for anyone coming to Thailand. The physical landscape surrounding the 360 Issara is breaktaking. It is serene and quiet and filled with the sounds of nature - birds and monkeys! The lake water is clean and clear and warm like a bath. There are beautiful fish you can feed. The staff go above and beyond to ensure all your needs are met. The food is also top-notch. We wished we had spend three nights instead of two. "
