Mandurah Travel Guide

Explore the coastal and inland waterways of this large picturesque city in Western Australia and see lots of marine and land wildlife.

Mandurah is Western Australia’s second-largest city, a place where water is the centre of activities. The seaside destination is known for its beaches and vast network of inland waterways. Travel along rivers and lakes by canoe, dive under the Indian Ocean and go on a cruise to see dolphins. Away from the marine environment are swathes of native bush and a rich mix of cultural activities.

Mandurah has about 130 square kilometres (50 square miles) of estuary and inland waterways. Rent a kayak or canoe for a trip along one of the region's seven canoe trails. If you want to travel through water at greater speeds, go whitewater rafting and Jet Skiing.

Spend a relaxing day at the beach. Among the popular options are Silver Sands Beach and Halls Head Beach. Take a dip in the Indian Ocean and if you’re in luck, you may spot dolphins close to the shore. For the best chance of seeing the marine mammals, go on a dolphin cruise. Venture into Mandurah’s underwater world on a scuba diving or snorkeling expedition.

Mandurah is also a popular fishing and crabbing destination. A good time to catch blue swimmer crabs that the area is famous for is in late summer. In March, join in the festivities of Crabfest where you can sample lots of seafood.

A pleasant way to experience the city’s laid-back coastal vibe is at Dolphin Quay. Stroll along boardwalks, enjoying views of the ocean. Browse the marina’s market and gift stores and dine in a waterfront restaurant.

For cultural activities, visit the Mandurah Community Museum to learn about the Bindjareb, the first people to inhabit the area. In the evening, reserve a seat for a show at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre.

Outside Mandurah, hike, bike or take a four-wheel drive tour through native bush. Go bird spotting at Austin Bay Nature Reserve and see more wildlife at Peel Zoo.

Reach Mandurah by flying into its airport, which receives daily flights from Perth, the state capital. Let the city excite you with its beaches, marine life and scenic waterways.
