North Lakes Hotel And Spa
10/10 Excellent
"We loved our brief stay! Perfect for a stopover on the long drive from Sussex to Scotland. Ideally situated and clean with friendly staff and great facilities. The restaurant food was excellent, too - we enjoyed both dinner and breakfast. Our children loved their bunk beds in our room! Will almost certainly visit again."

Another Place The Lake

Shap Wells Hotel
8/10 Good
"The hotel is very remote so we ate at the hotel restaurant. The menu was not vast but offered enough variety to cater for most. There is a huge hotel bar and hotel reception which offers plenty of seating. Rooms are fairly basic but sufficient for an overnight stay Would use again if in the area Pretty stream and waterfall immediately outside reception."

Brooklands Guest House
10/10 Excellent
"Absolutely wonderful - everything about the stay was perfect - beautiful house, breakfast, and hostess ! It is no wonder that it is. 4 in a bed winner ( for those who don’t know it’s a uk TV programme where 4 guest house owners compete against for best guest house etc ) We didn’t know this when we booked ! We will definately be staying when we’re back down for the world Marmalade festival next year ! To the hostess - Wishing you the very best in life and this exciting venture you are clearly made for - you are an inspiration ! X"

Pooley Bridge Inn
10/10 Excellent
"Just back from a 3 night stay at Pooley Bridge Inn. We booked one of the balcony rooms which overlooks the front of the hotel. This was great for chilling after walks on rainy days. The room itself had everything you could need for your stay, selection of tea, coffee, etc and this was topped up daily as required. There’s a communal fridge for guest use on the landing which was in working order. The room was clean on arrival and daily room cleaning was available if required but we chose not to unless we needed something, you just let them know. The hotel is exceptionally doggy friendly, as long as they are on the floor which is fair enough. Breakfast is plentiful, ranging from continental to full fry up, of varying sizes. I wish I had a bigger appetite cause it was so tasty. Fresh tea and coffee served on request as well. They even have Doggy sausages on the menu for your furry friend. Parking is provided for hotel guests and diners but can be very busy during lunch and dinner services. We never had an issue though. We chose to have dinner (booking advised) in the hotel on 2 nights of our stay. There are ample choices on the menu. Everything we ordered was delicious and very filling. The staff were all very friendly, Tracy, the housekeeping manager, was who we saw the most as she seemed to be there all the time. She fulfilled our minimum requests every time. All staff that we saw worked very hard at all times to keeps guests happy and the hotel pristine."

Westmorland Hotel Tebay
6/10 Okay
"I have used this hotel four times this last year as a stopover for trips from south Devon to Scotland and overall have been pleased with the facilities and service provided. Meals have been excellent and the rooms comfortable and clean. My only concern has been with the service in the dining room: the staff are all delightfully friendly and welcoming but on each of my visits service has been very slow - it took 40 minutes last night for drinks we’d ordered to arrive and our meals a further 10. We weren’t the only ones waiting far too long. I’m sure some training or perhaps a shake up of procedures in the kitchen itself might help. Having driven over 350 miles yesterday I didn’t appreciate being kept waiting so long for my dinner! "

The Ullswater Inn- The Inn Collection Group
10/10 Excellent
"Perfect location for exploring Helvellyn. Staff were attentive and friendly. We took our dog with us and they looked after all of us. Pub had great atmosphere. Would stay here again."
