The perfect base for exploring the Lake District. All on the Ground Floor: Open plan living space. Living area: 43" Smart TV, Bluray Player, Soundbar, Woodburner Dining area. Kitchen area: Electric Range, Microwave, Fridge, Freezer, Dishwasher, Coffee Machine Conservatory. Bedroom 1: Kingsize (5ft) Bed Bedroom 2: Single (3ft) Bed Bedroom 3: Single (3ft) Bed Bathroom: Bath With Shower Over, Toilet, Washer Dryer. Oil central heating, electricity, bed linen and Wi-Fi included, one hand towel and small bath towel provided per guest. Initial logs for wood burner included. Cot and highchair. Telephone - incoming calls only.. Front garden with garden furniture. Sauna (private). Private parking for 3 cars. No smoking. Please note: Due to the character of this property some of the floor levels are uneven.. Mews Cottage is a barn conversion which is full of character in a beautiful and peaceful location with a lovely view. It is part of a development of converted farm buildings, built from Lakeland stone and with traditional Lakeland stone floors in the living areas. It has been attractively furnished and fitted to a high standard, with every modern convenience, making it a real home from home. The kitchen has been refurbished to a high standard with fully integrated appliances and soft close cupboards and drawers. A unique feature of this cottage is the sauna - perfect for relaxing after a hard day on the fells! Mews Cottage is situated in the attractive hamlet of Bampton, in the Lowther Valley. Anyone familiar with the cult film ’Withnail and I’ will recognise the village phone box across the road from the cottage. This is a tranquil, unspoilt and beautiful area of the Lake District: perfect for getting away from it all and for seeing wildlife like red squirrels, deer and buzzards. However, the location is still also convenient for accessing not only other parts of the Lake District, but also the Yorkshire Dales, Teesdale and Hadrian’s Wall. Bampton itself has a village store with tea room, children’s playground and an excellent pub, The Mardale Inn. There are other excellent pubs a short drive away in Askham, Tirril and Shap, as well as the Haweswater Hotel. There is also an electric car charging point within a 5 minute walk at Bampton village hall. Askham Hall also boasts a Michelin starred restaurant. The nearest lakes are Haweswater and Ullswater. The area is perfect for walking and cycling with its quiet scenic roads and there is plenty of good walking from the doorstep, including on the surrounding fells leading over to Ullswater.Popular fells such as Hallin Fell, Place Fell and High Street are nearby, and information on local walks is provided in the cottage. Well known fells such as Helvellyn, Skiddaw and Blencathra are only a short drive away. The magnificent High Cup Nick in the Pennines is also only a short drive away. There are lots of nearby attractions and activities including cycle hire (including e-bikes at Lowther Castle), mountain biking, horse riding, Dalemain House and gardens, Aira Force, Ullswater Steamers and other water sports. The nearest town to Bampton is Penrith, approximately 7 miles and the M6 is just a 10 minute drive for easy access. Keswick is only 30 minutes drive and the southern lakes (and Ambleside and Grasmere) can readily be accessed in a scenic drive over Kirkstone Pass or through St John’s in the Vale, making Mews Cottage a great base to enjoy a holiday in the Lake District. Free WiFi Due to the character of the property, some of the floor levels are uneven.There is a small difference of 1/4" in floor levels between dining/kitchen area.Please remember to take your own towels.Guests are advised that there is a flood check device in the bathroom cupboard, meaning the cold water may need to be switched back on by pressing the green reset ‘button’ on the device, which is located near the hot water tank and washing machine and is on the left of the cupboard. This will need to be done if no water has been run off in the past 24 hours. The lights on the device flash for about a minute and then the water is back on. Towels are not included. Absolutely loved our recent stay here. We both had covid tests before staying to ensure everyone's safely. The cottage was easy to locate and on arrival the heating was already on, so lovely and cosy. More than enough 'initial' logs to keep us going for the evening. We ourchased more at Penrith easily. Although local amenities were marked slightly down, this was only for immediate location, only 10 mins to Shap for fully stocked Co-op and again 10/15 mins to Penrith for any shop you could possibly imagine! So fantastic location for this. Superb location to gain access to Lakes, Mountains, scenery and countryside. We challenged ourselves to High Street Mountain - incredible views, well worth it. An hour journey to Honister Slate Mine, again fantastic views up there too. Also a short journey to Ullswater and surrounding areas. We visited Lowther Castle & grounds, again a short 5 min journey and lovely day out, even take away food / drinks. The cottage was clean on arrival, maybe a few cobwebs here and there but to be expected with an old tradition building like that, the sauna was a blessing, after hours in the snow climbing it was great to come home to and easy to use! There were plenty of pots, oans, plates cutlery etc, we did leave a few bits we didn't need to bring home in order to help others (oil, seasoning's etc). We used to conservatory a little but as it was snowing the majority of the time it was too cold, would ebe glorious in such a peaceful tranquil environment though. Plenty of wildlife to be seen. The bed and sofas were cosy and comfortable, we were happy to cosy up in the evening with fire on it was superb. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here, would highly recommend and definitely come back! Thank you for a gorgeous little holiday. My partner even wanted to buy the place he loved it so much! Thanks again, much appreciated. The cottage is situated in a small rural village about three miles from Shap. Amenities in the village are limited to a small village store/coffee shop, but there is a coop, good chippy, pub and other smaller outlets in Shap. The area is much quieter than the honeypots of Keswick etc, however there is lots of walking, running, cycling from the doorstep, plus we got to see red deer and a red squirrel! The cottage itself is spacious, comfortable and well equipped. The only reason I marked it down slightly on cleanliness is because we were the first visitors post covid, and whilst it had been cleaned since the last visitors, it was a little dusty not having been given 'the once over' before we arrived. There is a lovely garden that is not overlooked and great for BBQs. Additionally there is a conservatory looking onto the garden which is great for sitting in on the wet lakeland days. To round it off the sauna is a great and unusual additional treat in these surroundings. We would book to stay here again. Excellent boiler, easy to use central heating, and fast wifi (50mbps for us). Fabulous views from lovely garden area, even the daily visits from the chickens!
