Owner helpful, BUT hotel under construction

Posted 13-Apr-2017
While owner was very kind, he should NOT be operating whole renovating the entire bldg. The smell of paint or turpentine was predominant from moment we entered forcing us to keep balcony door open all chilly night. This info should have been made available to Expedia & prospective guests beforehand.

Traditional French Hotel in great location

Posted 28-Feb-2017
Pros: We had a lovely comfortable warm room on the third floor. Benoit is always helpful, providing a map of Calais and recommending local restaurants.
We have stayed at Hotel Richelieu several times it is in a great location for restaurants and bars whilst staying in Calais and it's very near to the ferry port and the tunnel. The owner is renovating the hotel himself and each time we visit it is lovely to see the progress he is making it is, however, work in progress but it's great value for an overnight stay.

It was ok!

Posted 30-Oct-2016 on Hotels
My bathroom appeared to be very modern, the room hadn't yet been updated. There were signs to say rooms were being renovated but I wasn't aware of this until my arrival. Also, I was only given one coffee sachet - no tea, no sugar or milk.

Unique and friendly hotel

Posted 19-Oct-2016 on Hotels
Its a unique hotel situated away from the main bustle of town but within easy walking distance of everything Calais has to offer. There are every standard of restaurants within walking distance. The owner is friendly and helpful. The rooms are a good size with en-suite facilities including some rooms with a bath which is what I like. The hotel is in the process of being renovated by the owner but all the rooms and corridors are clean and tidy. The choice of decor is individual. You can park your car on the road outside the hotel which is what I do.

Good deal for the price

Posted 28-Sep-2016 on Hotels
There was no wifi at the hotel when I arrived. Which meant no wifi at the room and no way to pay by card. It really started my stay on the wrong note. The room was big and clean, however the shower could use a bit of scrubbing. The common areas were under renovation and felt a bit glum. The host seemed to do his best to be helpful and be friendly but a smile would have gone a long way.

Shocking, wouldn't even put the immigrants in it

Posted 22-Sep-2016 on Hotels
The hotel was that scruffy, we didn't even walk through the front door once we eventually found it. The picture for the hotel isn't even on their property, it's an entrance to a park
