Sleeps 6 A sweet Victorian home in Pacific Grove, just steps from the beach and the Monterey Bay Recreation Trail, is the perfect place to bring your family to relax and unwind, close enough to hear the waves and hear the seagulls calling in the distance. A small lawn area wraps around the house with geraniums and Mexican sage adding colorful accents. The Little House, built in 1888, is a registered Pacific Grove Historic Home and has vintage charm inside and out while also offering modern conveniences. Pet-friendly with a fenced back yard, it’s set up to welcome every member of the family. The 3-bedroom, 2-bath home features stained glass windows and other classic Victorian details, as well as original hardwood floors and light fixtures, lovely antique furniture, historic photographs and other vintage details. Besides being just steps from the beach, the 1,400-square-foot house is also only a few minutes away from Monarch butterfly sightings in Pacific Grove, Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row. Downtown Monterey, Carmel and golfing in Pebble Beach® are a 10-minute drive away, and other attractions within a half hour’s drive are the natural wonders of Big Sur and wine tasting and dining in Carmel Valley Village. Living Space Guests enter through a gate in a white picket fence, with steps leading to the front door of the red-and-white house. A cozy living room with a bay window and comfortable sofas provides a gathering place for conversation, watching the 32-inch HDTV or reading, and the adjacent vintage dining room table seats 6 next to a marble-topped antique sideboard. Kitchen and Dining The remodeled kitchen offers a four-burner gas range, blue cabinets, vintage tile backsplash and a farmhouse apron sink, with plenty of counter space and prep area. On the other side of the kitchen is a small home office with desk and rolling chair, ideal for doing paperwork or computer work. A stacked washer and dryer is conveniently tucked into this space. A door from the office leads into the back yard, where there is a gourmet gas grill and tall vine-covered fences for privacy. Seating around a fire pit makes this a great place for afternoon barbecues or late-night stargazing. Bedrooms and Bathrooms On the lower / main level, Bedroom #1 features a California king bed and an en suite bath with a pedestal sink, hexagonal tiled floor and claw foot tub with shower. Upstairs, Bedroom #2 has a queen-size antique bed and ocean views from the windows. Bedroom #3 features two twin beds. A unique, light-filled full bath with a pedestal sink, hex tile and claw foot tub with shower is tucked under the steeply angled ceiling. Parking is available for two cars in the driveway but any additional cars must park one block away due to limited street parking in front of the house. Carpooling is recommended. Well-behaved, quiet dogs are welcome with pre-approval, an additional pet fee and a signed pet addendum. This vacation home is professionally managed by Sanctuary Vacation Rentals. Reviewer Comments: My family of four including daughters 9 and 11 stayed here for four nights with the in-laws. Our family stayed upstairs and it was quite private from the downstairs. Everything was wonderful and the host was super responsive. My daughter spilled nail polish on a rug and shower curtain and I sent photos of the crime scene to the host and they were able to handle it and didn’t charge us which was very kind. We were welcomed with wine, cheese, and crackers. There is a beautiful oceanside trail just around the corner and many restaurants, shops, and an amazing aquarium are in walking distance. The kitchen is well stocked. Towels, bedding, linens were nice quality. We had difficulty with the preprogrammed A/C. Despite our efforts to keep the desired temperature at 70, it kept hopping back up to 80\. The firepit and outdoor chairs were not prepped for use. We had plenty of keys and parking is easy. ##### Mendi W. I found myself conflicted - I wanted to explore the beauties the area has to offer, but I also just wanted to hang in out at the home. This house is filled to the brim with Victorian charm. The clawfoot bathtubs were wonderful for soaking, but be advised, showering created a slippery surface. Be cautious of that. The home was well-equipped and very comfortable. I would love to return one day, however it is pretty pricey and seems to fluctuate greatly - but is definitely a “get what you pay for” experience. If you are very tall, I would not recommend this home only because of the low ceilings located upstairs. Other than that it’s pretty near perfect! ##### Samantha C. Reviewer Comments: We’ve been visiting PG for the last 25 years and this is our first home stay. We spent a week here and wish we could stay more. The house was perfect for our family and dog. It was spotlessly clean and well stocked for anything you may need. Beds were very comfortable. Some beach chairs and a small cooler would have been appreciated. We loved the character of the home from 1888\. I agree with most guests concerning access into the clawfoot tubs but that’s part of the charm. Neighborhood was quiet except for trash day. They sure get started early 🙁. The location made it easy to walk to downtown PG, the coastal trail and Cannery Row. Sanctuary was great the work with and there were no surprises. We’ll be back soon. The house is finished perfectly, tile, hardwood floors, everything fits the house. Every pot, pan, waffle marker, crock pot, knife, plates, plastic cups, wine glasses, mugs is available for you to use. Large refrigerator, toaster oven, keurig were all available. Sheets and towels were nice. Hair dryers in each bathroom, q tips and cotton balls, everything you may have forgotten at home. You can see the water from several windows. Neighborhood was so quiet - only the seagulls made noise my only comment was we asked last minute for a late check out and were told by management company 30 mins would be all they could offer, we accepted. Promptly at check out time someone came to the house ready to start stripping bedding and towels he told us nothing was communicated to him and we need to be more direct with the rental company. We left 5 mins after check out but it was a tad frustrating. House is great, location is great will stay again ##### Sarah S. It is a well-kept, comfortable house with all the amenities. The kitchen was great, has lots of room, and everything you need to cook. There's a nice backyard area with fire pit and BBQ which makes for a great gathering space. The beds were really comfortable. If you are looking to stay in Pacific Grove, this is a great choice!As with all classic Victorians, it has a claw foot tub, which will create some problems for people with limited mobility or balance issues. I am short, which made it a challenge too. It's a big step in and a big step out. That was the only downside for us, and I can't complain about it because I knew about it going in. Our family of 6, including in-laws, and 7 and 3 year old, spent a week in Monterey and found the little red house to be a perfect home away from home. We were easy walking distance to fantastic restaurants and shops a few blocks away in Pacific Grove as well as the coastal trail to the aquarium and lover's point, the wharf, ect. Such a great location! The surrounding residential neighborhood was quiet, just a couple of blocks from a great playground and steps from the ocean, perfect for kids and families who want peaceful nights and mornings with the sights and sounds of the sea, not tourists and parties. You can't miss the views of the ocean or the beautiful stained glass in the windows. The back and side garden are fenced, with lovely landscaping and flowers in addition to the fire pit table and grill with ample seating. The kitchen and baths were well stocked with quality supplies like pans and plates/cutlery, towels, etc; we did have to apply dishwashing detergent, however eco friendly laundry soap sheets were a pleasant surprise. Of course having a washer and dryer is such a bonus! The layout and rooms are surprisingly spacious for a small house, and everyone noted good sleep in their comfy beds. The claw foot tubs are deep, and the shower water pressure is excellent with elegant fixtures. Communication was easy and very responsive, and overall the check in and check out process was super easy with zero hassle. ##### Jodi M. M.
