Centre of town with good parking

Posted 09-Jun-2017
Old school pub with parking at the rear. Good centre location with free parking. Basic and straightforward room that was very clean and it had everything we needed. Very helpful staff and the breakfast was excellent. If you want a top class hotel with all the facilities this won't be for you, but if you need a near central base to go off and explore Oxford at a reasonable price trot round to The Old Black Horse!

Pub close to the town centre

Posted 05-Jun-2017
Pros: Good location
Cons: Breakfast only served for an hour - better if a bit longer.
Location: Really close to town centre will historic colleges, museums etc.
Hotel is part of an inn. Not super smart but quite adequate.

Faded hostelry

Man who checked us in was unenthusiastic, lady who served us breakfast was more agreeable. Room was clean, bedding clean but un-ironed. Breakfast was ok. The place had a neglected air about it, both inside and out. Not great value for £125!

Noisy most of the night. Other options available at price and central to city.

Good location

Mold in bathroom needs to be taken care of. Close to main areas. On main road. Free parking, but not noted on their website it is free. Bed comfortable. Rooms good size.

We were given room 8 which was down a tiny corridor (more like a tunnel) and down steps which were horrendously dangerous when trying to carrying two heavy suitcases down and into the room. As someone has already said in a previous comment - definitely not good if you have mobility issues. The carpets or something had a musty sort of smell just by room. Not pleasant! The room overlooked the pub garden so could hear all the chatter from the pub as well as noise from the road.

Good. But there is a bar/pub in the ground floor.

Location good but disappointing room

Posted 04-Mar-2017 on Hotels
The room was clean and adequate though very small. The ensuite was modern- no plug in the washbasin, which is wasteful. Bed was comfortable enough. Two pillows, both thick, so one wasn't enough and two was too much. Why don't b&bs copy Premier Inn and have different thicknesses of pillow? Breakfast was good and freshly cooked. My big complaint was that there was no proper lighting in the room, only two wall lights, one of which was too feeble to illuminate anything. Impossible to read in there and as the TV, though equipped with a Skybox, seemed unable to receive any BBC channels and several of the ITV ones, one just had to go to bed early. Just about acceptable, but not a place to spend more than one night in. If I hadn't been redeeming (partly) a free night, I would have been annoyed to pay the full charge. The location is the best thing about it.

Lovely hotel. The staff were really friendly and the breakfast was really nice. Room was clean. Location is great, just a few minutes walk from the town centre.

Quaint accommodations in a very old building.

Posted 13-Oct-2016
Pros: Comfortable room with the convenient pub on the ground floor.
Cons: Narrow stairway to second floor was difficult the maneuver with luggage.
Location: Location was very good, close to the city center.
Very comfortable and clean rooms with very nice service. The ground floor pub was a bonus. Free breakfast every morning was nice. The very old building was oozing with character.
