The view from the hotel was great! It’s on top of a hill. Probably a rough walk to town but the dinner there was great and rooftop bar as well so I didn’t go into town for my one night stay. The only weird thing is it wasn’t on Google maps and my taxi driver didn’t know where it was. The room was spacious, clean, modernised with the exception of the bathroom which is still more of a traditional, dated Japanese bathroom, however, it was still very clean and of course functioning well. The Japanese breakfast in the morning was very lovely, accompanied by great views again. The lobby has a cafe where they do great latte art. There’s also a letter room where you can print photos and send letter which was a nice touch. Overall I really enjoyed my stay. One note of caution, this really is a hillside hotel, we initially planned to walk because google map says it was 16 minutes but it would be quite a trek up hill with very narrow paths so driving / taxi would be the way to go and there’s a taxi rank at the station which would be about a 10 mins journey and <1500 yen. ##### Emilie Stayed 1 night in Nov 2025 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Jason 18 Oct 2025 Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities, property conditions & facilities The room was very clean, and very spacious. Beds were comfortable (two twin beds), as were the pillows. Washroom was on the smaller size. Staff were absolutely amazing at this hotel. The view of the town and river from the room was perfect. In room amenities were also nice, the self brew coffee was pretty good. We really enjoyed our time at the Onomichi Club and would stay there again. It is a little hard to get to by foot. Especially from the train station, if you have luggage, pay the extra money for a taxi to take you up to the hotel. Think it had only just re-opened post a change of ownership and total refurbishment so was spotless. Rooms were very large for Japan with amazing views across the harbour to the sea. Lots of very helpful staff. Lovely rooftop bar (they gave us a voucher for a free drink when we checked in!) and breakfast was very tasty although traditional Japanese i.e. rice, miso, vegetables and rice. Walkable down to the town/harbour but it's a quite a big hill / lots of steps coming back! ##### Timothy Stayed 1 night in Apr 2025 ### 6/10 Okay #### Hieu 10 Jun 2025 Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service Disliked: Amenities, property conditions & facilities The staff was corteous and helpful but I do not recommebd the hotel because it's located on top of a hill, making it very inconvenient if you want to get food outside of the hotel. The taxi ride from Onomichi JR station costs about JPY1,300 each way, so if you want to go down to the streets to explore and eat you will have to pay about JPY2,600 for the round trip. What really shocked me was the hotel breakfast. It costs JPY2,200 and at that price you would expect to be full but there was tiny amount of food (one thumbnail size bit of fish, one tiny piece of omelette, and very small varieties of condiments plus a bowl of rice and miso soup. I had visited an upscale onsen in Uno (by Naoshima island) and the sumptuous lunch set there cost JPY2,100 with so much delicious seasonal food, making me feel deprived by the breakfast set at the Onomichi Club. Again, the staff was very nice but this hotel has poor value for the money. The hotel was new and spotless, with wonderful interior design and all kinds of luxurious touches like loungewear sets you could mix and match for yourself and a free bowl of mini-ramen. The staff was incomparably kind and professional. And the view was out of this world. We got an “economy twin” with “extra large twin” beds and found one bed large enough to fit both of us, two medium-sized people. The rooftop bar, where you get the mini-ramen, has great cocktails and amazing staff who offered to take our photo. Quite unbelievable that they don't provide a shuttle service as every other hotel in Japan in a similar location does. The room was the most uncomfortable one of my entire stay in Japan. The person who designed the fancy bench certainly did not sit on it. In the tiny bathroom it smelled badly the drains, especially when taking a shower. Windows have no mosquito protection. Housekeeping to be improved as well. I stayed two nights and although I got new towels and water, they did not change the cups and glasses. Sound insulation is not very good, you can hear well your room neighbours. Reception is kind of friendly, but compared to Japanese standards really on the lower end. Communication through the booking portal and their website did not work. ( probleme de traduction ?!) donc en arrivant ils ont vu que nous serions serres a deux.ils nous ont propose une chambre plus grande et plus chere ( + 7000 yen) forcement et nous avons accepte. chambre spacieuse avec vue sur la mer en contre-bas et grande baie vitree.Nous avons pris le repas au restaurant vers 13h et c etait excellent : encore une fois belle vue sur la mer en contre-bas. Nous avons aussi pris le petit-dejeuner traditionnel (japonais: soupe miso, poisson, riz..) le lendemain. Le parc Senko-ji est situe a 5 min a pied donc nous avons pu en profiter pour deambuler dans les petites rues a notre rythme.
