Grand Naniloa Hotel Hilo - a Doubletree by Hilton
8/10 Good
"We enjoyed our stay at the Grand Naniloa Hotel. It's an oceanfront property and we had a nice view of the bay. There's a pool and 2 on-site bar/restaurants that were very convenient with outside seating and splendid views of the waterfront. You can also swim in the ocean as there's a ladder with concrete dock along the shoreline. The visibility wasn't clear enough to snorkel, but I did get in the water for a swim. The hotel isn't far at all from the airport or the downtown area, so the location is convenient. The only 2 negatives were a minor pest control issue inside the room and the hotel charges a resort fee plus an extra cost for self parking. It's about 1-2 blocks across the street and the parking lot is super muddy. But overall, I was happy with the accommodations and really enjoyed the on-site dining options with all 3 meals available: breakfast, lunch and dinner. I would stay here again. Thank you."
"There is no Air Conditioning, only ceiling fans in the bedrooms. The shower in the lower level is all hot or all cold, nothing in-between. Tried to adjust for five minutes with no luck.
There is not onsite staff to check in or out, but there is someone living onsite."
"The house truly is grand and beautifully maintained. The view from the back deck is unbelievably stunning - alone it’s worth the price of admission. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit."
"Beautiful hotel. We noticed a great deal of attention to detail. The animals were wonderful.Setting was peaceful. There was one issue.I asked the day before arrival if I could check in at 2 since we had an excursion starting at 4.Josh was at a graduation but we called him and he was able to give us the code.We dropped off our things and left.We returned at 11 pm and noticed the room had only 1 bed.We registered as a group of 3.There were only 2 towels.I didn't want to bother anyone so late so my son slept on the floor and we roughed it with the towels.Next morning we left early.I texted Josh and asked why the room was only set up for 2.I mentioned the bed and the towels. His reply was that there was a rollaway in the LR.I texted back that I was disappointed that the room was not ready for us.No reply. That evening we were sitting in the LR and Josh came in, introduced himself and wanted to know why I was disappointed.I repeated the missing items. He got very defensive and said it wasn't his fault and I shouldn't have booked that room.I told him the website said it slept 3.He kept repeating it wasn't his fault. He didn't know we were 3 people. He blamed the owners for not telling him.He blamed me for coming when he wasn't there. He was upset that I came in late that first night. He was concerned that I would give him a bad review. He walked away in a huff.Later I texted that an apology for the mixup would fix the situation. No reply. So the missing stars are because you couldn't say sorry"
