Grand Naniloa Hotel Hilo - a Doubletree by Hilton

"The hotel is located on the beach. It has great amenities like a gym and an onsite location. While we stayed, the hotel was in transition with work and you had to summon the elevator via calling front desk who would radio the employee in the elevator. I don’t know if that is a long term inconvenience although the front desk made it work relatively seamlessly. There is no room service feature and the valet parking service was not operating during our stay. I would have liked to have a deck to sit out and watch the sunset. Again, not sure if this is construction-related. Overall, the stay was comfortable. It’s located close to the airport and as stated earlier, it’s on the beach."
Honomu Place - Resort Oasis

"Our family of twelve traveled to Honomu right after the largest hurricane the island had seen in over 150 years. We almost canceled, but this trip was a once‑in‑a‑lifetime “final hurrah” for my in‑laws, who rarely travel and don’t plan to fly again. When the airline confirmed it was safe, we decided to go — not realizing the island would be without power for several days.Even with a 3–4 day outage, this stay became one of the most meaningful vacations we’ve ever had. The home is beautiful, full of natural light, and surprisingly comfortable even without electricity. We spent our days enjoying the property, cooking on the barbecue, using ice chests, talking, laughing, and truly reconnecting as a family. It felt like “mansion camping,” and somehow it was perfect.Our host was incredible. They checked in often, opened an extra room for us, kept us updated on the local situation, and even had a neighbor stop by to welcome us and share where we could find internet and supplies. As soon as the weather cleared, they sent someone to clean the pools so we could enjoy the outdoor space. Their kindness made a challenging situation feel safe and supported.When the power finally returned, the host generously extended our stay for free, allowing us to fully enjoy the home. Despite the hurricane, this was one of my favorite vacations ever. The house was amazing, the host was amazing,My kids are already begging to return and missing the stuffed animal turtles!"

"This is our second time staying on the property and it is beautiful! The addition of the lanai off the river side on the house is relaxing and a perfect spot to have coffee or eat dinner. Mahalo!"
Mahana House Country Inn

"Mahana House is a gorgeous space where seemingly everything has been thought about and tended to. The hosts are kind, gracious, and welcoming. They're as available as you need them to be, and when my mom and I were caught in a tropical storm and literally not even sure we'd make it to the inn, they were continuously available and responsible, without having electricity themselves. This is a truly beautiful, special place, and I hope to go back!"

"Nice old plantation style house with a beautiful yard and view of Hilo. Staff was nice and helpful, even tho I arrived a day and a half late. Very peaceful place to stay, with birds chirping in the morning and coqui frogs croaking at night."

"What an amazing place!! The view is spectacular and the location is perfect for just about everything on the northeast side of the island. Jim is a wonderful host and a lot of fun. We will certainly stay again when we return."

"This was a great house for our family vacation. The house is beautiful, spacious kitchen where we cooked meals together. The kitchen had nearly everything needed. We enjoyed the pool so much. The location was close to downtown Hilo making it very convenient. June was a pleasure to work with."
