When is the best time to go to Old Town Dijon?

The best time to visit Old Town Dijon is during the late spring (May to June) or early autumn (September to October). During these months, the weather is pleasantly mild, making it ideal for exploring the city's pedestrianised centre and enjoying outdoor dining. You'll find fewer crowds compared to the peak summer months, allowing for a more relaxed experience when visiting attractions like the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy and the Notre-Dame Church. Couples looking for a romantic getaway will appreciate the comfortable temperatures for strolling hand-in-hand through the historic streets, discovering hidden courtyards, and enjoying wine tastings without the intense heat of summer. The market at Les Halles, designed by Gustave Eiffel, is also a wonderful place to experience local life and pick up fresh produce. For solo travellers interested in culture and history, these periods offer a calm environment for visiting museums like the Musée des Beaux-Arts or following the Owl's Trail to uncover the city's architectural gems.

Top Old Town Dijon Hotel Reviews

Residhome Dijon Cité des vignes

10/10 Excellent

"The room was very spacious and staff very helpful. Most of the sights were within walking distance."

Chapeau Rouge par William Frachot

8/10 Good

"The staff was very helpful, the rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable and the location was great! My only complaint was the bedroom size. I experienced many hotels that have small rooms but this room was so tiny that two people could not pass each other without turning sideways. There was no actual bathroom. Just a water closet and the sink and shower were a part the room."

Appart'hôtel Odalys City - Dijon Centre Les Cordeliers

8/10 Good

"Nice looking Aparthotel in a great location. We had a standard studio which is a good size and basic kitchen facilities were fine for us. Breakfast was good quality and plenty to choose from. Only downside was the room was quite stuffy even with low 20”s outside so could not imagine what it would be like in a heatwave. The fan was good but quite noisy."

Hôtel Darcy Dijon Centre

10/10 Excellent

"The Darcy is arguably the best located hotel in Dijon, directly at the arch and 10 minutes from the train station. I prefer smaller hotels so this was perfect. I enjoyed my room very much, which apparently had been recently refitted and renovated. All counter surfaces, carpet, bathroom fixtures, bedding, paint, furnishings and lights were new. The windows are soundproof with nifty electric blackout shades between the glass panes. Front desk staff were friendly, smiling and made eye contact when they greeted me. Breakfast was good, but a little pricey. It was a surprisingly affordable stay overall however. I would go back!"
