About this property
Historic 3+BR Norfolk CT Victorian, Woodstove, Screened in Porch, Walk to town
A Victorian home at the end of a dead-end road in Norfolk, in the northwest corner of Connecticut — three bedrooms plus an office, sleeping eight, a half-mile walk from the village. Newly renovated with everything a modern stay needs, but the original bones are intact: wide hardwood floors, antique clocks and artwork, and a stained-glass window on the stair landing that catches the afternoon light.
SLEEPS 8 One king bedroom, one queen bedroom, a third bedroom with two twin beds and an office with full-size futon — all upstairs, reached by a traditional staircase. There is also a full-size air mattress available if you need it. Two full baths.
THE KITCHEN Fully equipped for a group cooking real meals: induction cooktop, wall oven, and a separate convection oven that also air-fries and toasts. Blender, Instant Pot, slow cooker, dishwasher, and three ways to make coffee — drip, Keurig, and French press. The dining table expands, so everyone eats together.
THREE PLACES TO SIT OUTSIDE A front porch with a bench and two rocking chairs. A screened back porch with a couch, two chairs and a table for four, looking out over a private field edged with weeping willows. And an open back deck with a table seating eight to ten — the whole group can eat outside. Most days you'll watch turkey and deer cross the field; black bear pass through regularly too.
WHEN YOU STAY IN A deep shelf of board games and jigsaw puzzles — Ticket to Ride, Codenames, Telestrations, Battleship, Pictionary, Boggle — plus a vintage dollhouse for younger guests, a TV and gaming console, and lawn games outside: croquet, badminton, cornhole. A bay window with two chairs, looking out at the lawn.
EVERY SEASON Mini-split A/Cs for summer. Hot-water radiators throughout, a wood-burning fireplace insert in the living area, and a wood-burning fire pit table outside for cold nights. In snow season the driveway is plowed and the walk and patio shoveled before you arrive.
WORKING FROM HERE Reliable wifi and two desk setups — one in the office, one in the second bedroom.
THE VILLAGE — A HALF-MILE WALK Cafés and shops in the center of Historic Norfolk, plus the Norfolk Historical Society and the town library. Live music year-round at Infinity Music Hall, and each summer the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival brings Yale School of Music performances to the Ellen Battell Stoeckel Estate. Free tennis, pickleball and a playground at Botelle School on Route 44, five minutes by car.
OUTDOORS, YEAR-ROUND Hiking in every direction: Haystack Mountain and its stone tower, Dennis Hill, Campbell Falls, and the trails through Great Mountain Forest. Lake swimming, river fishing and disc golf all nearby. Norfolk is the Icebox of Connecticut and leans into it — learn-to-curl sessions at the Norfolk Curling Club, skiing at Mohawk Mountain.
GOOD TO KNOW Parking for three cars in the driveway, with more on the street. Keyless entry by code. Washer and dryer in the basement. Pets welcome. This is a rural community at the end of a dead-end road, and Norfolk earns its Icebox nickname — pack accordingly in winter. Firewood is usually on hand but we can't promise it every stay; message us before you travel and we'll let you know. Please keep food indoors and trash secured — we're in bear country.
