It is next to the main shrines in Nikko, so location is great, but the buses in Nikko are so good that you would be better staying further into town at a cheaper hotel. There are not many places to eat nearby, so we ate in the hotel 1 night. It was very expensive for a french style menu which was largely underwhelming, especially the main courses which were very small. They also messed up our room and instead of giving us a genuine triple, we got a twin with a sofa bed - not a problem for sleeping arrangements, but on Expedia it was £50 cheaper per night and after negotiating with the front desk we received £25pn discount. Peaceful and so close to the famous Shinkyo Bridge and Toshugo Shrine. The walking track to the Kanmangafuchi Abyss was excellent. If you love nature, this is the place to go. We were lucky to experience the Spring Festival and enjoyed the warmth and hospitality of the small-town people. The hotel itself has lots of history. The room is really spacious and modern with a view to the mountains and bushes. The staff were very accommodating despite their minimal English. My Japanese Breakfast was excellent. Fabulous staff and service. Incredible views from our room and walkable (hilly) to bridge and shrines. Dinner and breakfast delightfully served with beautiful china, crystal and silver. The hotel is a bit historically 'tired' but very clean. The service and amenities are very nice. The food is delicious.
