Cool historic house in a great location. Some issues with check in but received prompt information from owner. Overall a really neat place in a very historic setting.
My husband and I were in town for a wedding. Carriage house was absolutely perfect for us! Very walkable to many shops, restaurants, and the river.
Kitchen was well stocked with all the basic amenities. Behalf bathroom was such a nice bonus.
Home is historic and The property is Very nice with lots of seating areas outside.
Peaked into some of the windows around the main house and that looks just as lovely.
Communication and contact with host was excellent!!
We will be coming back again this summer for a weekend get-a-way
Fantastic location for Niagara Falls/Lewiston Artpark
First, let me say that of the best experiences you can have on VRBO, all of them are predicated by a responsive, concerned property owner. The owner, Diane, was ready at all hours (it seemed) to answer questions, give advice, and just be helpful. I wish I could give the property a sixth star in that regard.
The Carriage House is a fair-size apartment of the main mansion. The grounds are a work in progress, but what they have completed is beautiful. The mansion is gorgeous inside and out. The Carriage House itself consists of a large kitchen, an entry area that includes a 1/2 bath, a sitting room, a bedroom with TV, a large closet area and a full bath with shower. The Carriage House is appointed well and designed to take one back to a historical time. You will find updated appliances in the kitchen, but much of the rest of the apartment is antique - there is adequate lighting, good water pressure and heat, air conditioning and a gas fireplace for use during certain months of the year. Additionally, there is an outside courtyard that includes Adirondack chairs and a firepit. The Carriage House is designed for couples, but the sitting room has a large couch and there is a rollaway bed in the closet to accommodate children or additional adults. Niagara Falls and associated state parks are nearby, as is the town of Niagara Falls. The Canadian border is within about 10-15 minutes drive. We came to town for the Artpark for a concert and the venue is within a short walk.

Wanted to Love It
The carriage house is in a fantastic location, an easy walk to the village or the river. The outdoor areas are nice and there is plenty of parking.
The owner was responsive to questions. Check-in was uneventful.
The carriage house appears to be an older conversion with some updates. Strangely, there are 4 doors to the outside including two in the primary bedroom and one in the primary bathroom. The windows are all screwed shut so you need to keep a door open to get fresh air. Kitchen looked nice although we barely stepped into it. Half bath was clean and functional. Décor is quaint. Furniture is comfortable, albeit dated. Most everything is functional except as noted below. Light switch bingo will keep you occupied for a while. TV/Wi-Fi worked as advertised.
Housekeeping was no more than average. Cobwebs in many corners. Walls and baseboards all need to be wiped down.
The primary bathroom is significantly more rustic than we were comfortable with. It is very small with a door that opens directly outside. The shower is something you would find in an actual carriage house. The pictures in the listing do not do this room justice. Compounding the appearance, the shower faucet was broken. Taking a shower that didn’t freeze or scald you was a challenge. The owner passed on directions to use the faucet that eventually proved to be helpful. Also, the owner said that replacement was imminent. This bathroom would be a dealbreaker for any return visit.
My wife and I spent our wedding night at this story book carriage house in beautiful, historic Lewiston. As the main house was not rented that night have property all two acres of it to ourselves. Between the beautiful gardens the two minute walk to downtown Lewiston and to the Niagara River it was the perfect place to spend our wedding night
Spacious accommodations for a couple. Good location
Within 15 minutes of our arrival, we had our wine and cheese arranged on the patio facing the Niagara River watching the sun set. It was wonderful. The suite has plenty of room and we enjoyed spreading out in the several rooms. On the other hand, the kitchen was sparkly furnished and we had difficulty getting the shower to produce any meaningful amount of hot water. Maybe it was our problem.

Sounded better on paper
There were two unsightly wooden shelf units next to the front entrance. Why?? Storage should not be the first thing you see. The carpets were filthy. There was an old, delapidated chair in the living room. The TV was over the non-working fireplace in the bedroom. So you had to sit in a separate room to view the television. The place was surface cleaned only. There were spiders in most corners. There were many spiders in the shower; I have showered in better campground showers. The bamboo blinds in most rooms did not give privacy. You could easily see into the cottage. When in the kitchen, you could hear the people in the adjoining main house. There weren't any extra blankets or pillows. There were only two forks! Two?! We had to wash them each time we used them.
The positives were the sheets and linen were properly clean and smelled good. The bed was comfortable.
Confortable accommodation in an excellent location
I booked through VRBO, I’m familiar with the area so I knew the location was perfect for us. The Owner is unbelievably responsive and kind and we will certainly be back
We enjoyed our stay in this historical property! The little imperfections made it absolutely charming! We loved the beautiful peaceful outside areas and the view of the river was spectacular. Location to Center Street was only 2 blocks! So much activity going on every nite. Live music and great places to eat or sip on a drink! The communication with property manager was phenomenal. Diane gave us so much interesting information and great recommendations! Hate to let this little secret gem out of the bag! We could only hope to be able to return again someday.
Very comfortable with plenty of room and storage. Ideal location....within walking distance to all the Village of Lewiston has to offer, dining, shops and of course the Niagara river.
Wonderful location. Chose this place as it had a full kitchen and we were limiting interaction due to Covid-19. Would have been five stars, but kitchen was missing a few essentials. No toaster. No bakeware. Limited silverware. Will recommend to friends with a few caveats.
We rented this location for our small wedding ceremony. The property was beautiful. I visited the property a week before and noticed there were large branches down. The host knew we were having our wedding there so I just assumed they were doing some yard work. When I arrived at check in they were still there. My father and brother had to move them so they wouldn’t be in the way of pictures. Two of the AC hose units upstairs kept popping off the and it would not stay cool. My father had to fix them. Another issue we had was that the fridge was not staying cold. The upstairs shower also leaked into the kitchen. Another thing that was frustrating, was not knowing where any of the light switches were. For example- the switch for the dining room chandelier was in a closet, and the exterior lights were in the upstairs bathroom. This would have been nice to know ahead of time. I hate to complain, because we really had a wonderful weekend, and the house is absolutely gorgeous and was very spacious for us, but we unfortunately had many issues during our stay.
We love Lewiston. We had walked by the Barton House dozens of times and always wondered about it. It’s fantastic. We called the Lewiston museum after checking in and had a half ho ur conversation with the museum’s curator. Really set the stage for our visit. We will be returning.
