Hotel should know whats happening on their street

Posted 29-Nov-2016
Pros: Staff were very helpful and pleasant
Cons: Charging $150 for a pet stay. That annoyed me.
Location: Went for the Thanksgiving day parade. Parade right outside the door. GREAT!!
Hard to check in at the front door do to streets being closed off for the Thanksgiving day parade. They should put something on there site telling people how to get in or what time the streets would be closed off. We found their 38th street back entrance and was able to call the front desk to open the door. Everyone came to back door to get our luggage and valet for the car but we had to figure this one out. They tell everyone this best time to check in on this particular day. Hotel was clean and great looking. The pet stay price is ridiculous!!! I wanted to let my dog just run around...lol!

Dear Damion, We appreciate your detailed review. While we are delighted you enjoyed our central location, we regret any inconvenience that came along with your check in process. It is an honor and a thrill to be so close to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade route. This holiday tradition often brings added traffic to the area, but this should never impact the quality of your stay. We hope the hustle and bustle did not negatively affect your overall experience. If you plan to return to New York for future holidays, we hope you consider staying with us again.

Locations good, ROOM condition, BASIC to poor.

Posted 28-Nov-2016
Pros: LOCATION to Central Park
Cons: Hotel offer of updated rooms located in building. Looking into a garbage dump and soiled old Mattresses outside window, well.....
I have returned to this hotel for the last several years but it's time to move on. The hotel is more than adequate for a budget traveller but for someone looking for more in comfort and state of condition, this is not your hotel. The hotel is clean but the beds are NOT comfortable . A poor mattress. The bathtub/ shower facilities are terrible . Sorely needs a renovation. Too many miles in today's environment where others are offering an updated facility that fits with the times in looks and comfort. Not even IKEA quality. The most important problem is booking through a third party, EXPEDIA, the hotel saves the WORST ROOMS FROM LOCATION IN THE HOTEL AND OVERALL CONDITION. They get away with it. No more. Not going back. Far too many choices, updated hotels.

Great hotel close to times square & central park

Posted 28-Nov-2016
Check-in was quick & easy, room was very clean, spacious & comfortable, walking distance to everything .. only bad thing is check-ins are late as wells's early check-out; latest checkout was 1pm otherwise you were billed half of what you paid per night

Great hotel - one of the best in NYC

Posted 24-Nov-2016
We loved everything about Essex House. Our only nit picky complaint is the comforters on the bed. Many hotels do this but it's annoying. The comforters are too thick and make you hot. But there is only a sheet and the comforter on the bed. So you either are hot or cold. They all need to have a smaller blanket in between

We are delighted you found our location overlooking Central Park to exceed expectations as well. It is troubling to know you experienced anything other than a peaceful nights sleep, but we are pleased this did not negatively impact your overall experience. Excellent location, next to Central Park

Posted 30-Oct-2016
Pros: Best part is the location, and the overall ambience.
Cons: Did not liked the dated bathtub + shower, nor the fact that the fridge is ONLY for items for sale, where moving things out of the fridge temporarily (in order to cool down a personal item, like a bottle of wine), will cause us to be charged.
Location: Great to be next to Central Park, and yet not that far away from the MOMA.

Dear Henning, Thank you for taking a moment to review your experience. It is spectacular to hear you enjoyed our location overlooking Central Park and within close proximity to various New York attractions. We are troubled, however, to know certain in-room amenities did not meet your expectations. If there is ever anything we can provide to make your stay more comfortable, we encourage you to contact the front desk. If you find yourself back in the area, we would love the opportunity to accommodate you again.

The accommodations were disappointing

Posted 20-Sep-2016
Pros: Luxurious with wonderful public spaces. Well located. Very professional staff.
Room was very small. How do you sell a room for two people that is so small there is only one small desk chair.

A hotel of contrasts

Posted 15-Sep-2016
Essex House is a historical hotel located at one of the most beautiful spots of Manhattan. When I arrived after a long haul flight, I was politely greeted at the reception and provided with a room on the 7th floor. The room was spacious, but the other qualities were far from being expected for a $500 per night lodging. Smelly carpets, dingy furniture... The window view was depressing: an endless brick wall with a garbage receptacles in the bottom. Next morning I was relocated to a much nice room on 35th floor with a Central Park view, clean and pleasing. People who helped me with relocation were very-very nice. However, it was $75 a night more. Caveat emptor.
