You have direct access to all the sites you would want to visit during your stay. By staying in the park, you can get to all the sites before the day-use tourists get in the park, then the park gets super busy. There are decent dining options. There is a small grocery/gift shop, which is decent as well. But be prepared. This is one step up from being at a campsite. Bring your own snacks, for sure (but you must store them properly due to the wildlife). If you are visiting in any part of the cold season, bring your own sleeping system (sleeping bag +). I stayed in a "non-heated" tent, and it was very cold out. The "blanket" provided was totally inadequate to keep a person warm through the night. If I had to describe the blanket, I would say that it's like two pieces of nylon sheet sewn together. They are slick as well. It would not stay covering my body during the night, and it ended up on the floor. The restrooms and showers were adequate, but stay busy all the time. All that being said, I would highly recommend the location for CAMPERS who want to stay in the park but just want a step up from their own tent, or who cannot get a campsite reservation (they book up quickly). In fact, one would be better off with a purchased tent, as most are designed to keep body heat in and the cold air out. Either that or reserve a "heated" tent. But I cannot speak to these, because I didn't use one. It is located just outside Yosemite and has about a 11 mile drive to the center of the valley. Would stay there again." We had 2 separate reservations for 2 nights ( back to back) under the same name - had to check out and check back in as they said that they are fully booked and can not accommodate keeping the same room for 2 nights. It was extremely painful to take all the luggage to the front desk to keep it until we come back from Yosemite, but more surprisingly, when we checked back in - it was the same villa building just a different room ( with the same arrangement/ layout as we had during the previous night). On the day of the departure, we asked to extend check out time by 30 minutes which hotels around the US as well as the world are easily accommodating, but again, we were told that they are fully booked and can not help us with a up to a 30 mins extension ( even 15 was not an option). However, even at 8 pm of the same day they have a lot of rooms available for booking online ( I guess it was not really the case that they are fully booked). Overall property is nice and traveling with a family is easy when you have 2 bedroom villas, but the staff ( especially front desk) really needs some training. If you are planning to use the spa or/and get some treatment - advance booking is recommended. There is a bus stop at the hotel where you can catch a free shuttle to other areas of Yosemite Valley, which is perfect if you’re traveling during peak season and don’t want to deal with parking in other areas of the park. The common sitting areas are very comfortable with amble seating and huge fireplaces that you can sit in and warm up after a long day of hiking in cold weather. The views of Half Dome are fantastic and that alone makes the hotel worth it. My only complaints about The Ahwahnee Hotel would be regarding the elevator and dining options. Only one elevator was working at the time of my visit and it kept getting stuck frequently, rendering it useless. I had to resort to using the stairs and being on the 3rd floor, this became a problem. Especially on check-out and check-in. I had to bring all my suitcases, along with my families, up and down the stairs, which was exhausting. Although, they did have someone tending to one elevator, as I mentioned, it kept getting stuck and was useless most of the time. In cases where it wasn’t stuck, there would be long wait times for the elevator service, which further delayed any planned trip for the day. At that point it was more convenient to walk up or down the stairs. Dining options at the restaurant or the bar are mediocre. The menu doesn’t have much to offer."
