Nakanojo

Whether you're heading to Nakanojo for a short trip or a lengthy vacation, you will find more than enough tourist highlights to keep you and your family entertained.

The population of this area of Gunma is approximately 18,000.

It is situated 80 miles northwest of the national capital of Tokyo. It's also 8 miles southwest of Minakami.

If you have an interest in animals, put the Kusatsu Nettaiken on your to-do list. If you're pressed for time, stop at the information center and collect a map so you don't miss any of the zoo highlights.

If you'd like to learn more about the local flora, a visit to the Oiwa Flower Garden and Minobara Flower Garden is a terrific idea.

Bring along a bite to eat and take five in the leafy, green surroundings of Kusatsu Hot Springs and Sainokawara Park. Nozoriko Lake Dam and Shima no Oketsu are two more pleasant spots to while away a lazy day over a good book.

Lakes almost always attract an interesting array of wildlife. Take a pair of binoculars to Yugama Lake or Nakanojo Dam and see what's around. If that fails, perhaps you'll have better luck at Lake Mononogu or Agatsuma Canyon.

Leave your phone in the glove compartment and give yourself a break from the stress of the modern world at Yubatake and Takaragawa Hot Spring. Nature-loving tourists will also have a terrific time at Shiriyaki Onsen and Mt. Hotaka.

Spend a day or two exploring some of the varied cultural spaces nearby. Meander through the hallways as you admire the displays at Akaiwa Community Center and Tsukiyono Vidro Park. Equally rewarding are the Okura Shukokan Museum of Fine Arts and the Nakajo Museum of Folk History.

Walk through the silent hallways and examine the exhibits and artifacts displayed at the Minakami History and Folklore Museum.

It's difficult to know what makes a place tick until you know its past. Luckily, this destination has protected many of its most important historic sites. Three of the most rewarding are Tomizawa Family Residence, the Iwabitsu Castle and the Nagurumi Castle.

Take some photographs, stroll around the grounds and immerse yourself in the tranquil atmosphere at the Kosenji Temple.

If you are ready to indulge in some retail therapy, explore the stores and stalls at Tanigawadake Drivein.

Traveling golf nuts can always find a game at Kusatsakogen Golf Course or the Taiheiyo Club Karuizawa Resort.

While some places might go into hibernation when thermometer starts dropping, Nakanojo thrives. Its variety of mountain resorts, such as Karuizawa Snow Park and Kusatsu International Ski Place, make it the ideal winter wonderland for visitors of all ages. With exciting runs and quality facilities, Ski Resort Minakami Norn and O-Ana Ski Resort are also popular among skiers and snowboarders.

Vacationers on the lookout for something a little different might like to also check out Yumiike.
