Andrea and Gilda have lovingly restored and enhanced an historic cottage, retaining one hundred percent of its charm and adding one hundred percent modern amenities: lovely cooking facility, up to date bathrooms, beautiful handmade tile floors, lots of ceramic details painted by a local artist, wonderful BBQ, stone terraces, and meticulously maintained pool. When there was a mechanical problem with the water heater after a lightning storm, Andrea got it fixed immediately. He also correctly suggested that we park our car in the upper town lot instead of threading it through a tiny arch and up a steep, turning drive. It was lovely to take the short walk every day for our outings and then stroll back down the hill in the evening.The pharmacy, post office and coffee bar under the tower give the hamlet a little more life than most of the nearby castles and small towns, and Tavernelle is right nearby with very good grocery shopping and road connections to the rest of Umbria.Best of all, the quiet was unbelievable. Just a few roosters and geese in the distance, at least at this time of year when many of the other houses were closed up.The surrounding landscape is so green and various, as are the clouds and sunrises and soft sunsets, that we easily read out the encroachments of modern power lines coming up the hill next to the house from an electric generating plant in the valley. Where do I start? From the moment we booked our stay Gunter started to shape how we would frame our annual two week family holiday. He kindly sent us a list of suggested things we could do. We have only done a fraction of what Umbria and the surrounding areas have to offer. The scenery, landscape, hospitality, food and welcome we were given was absolutely the best. Let’s move onto the property. The online details and photographs do not do the property justice's. The driveway upto the property is the first sign of what awaits. Shaded parking for four vehicles numerous seating areas outside and a pool which is ideal for cooling down after enjoying the fantastic weather. Inside the property continues to impress. A spacious entrance with stairs leading to the first floor. The living dining room is ideal for our 9 adults and 3 grandchildren to sit and enjoy meals and fun filled evenings when eating in. The kitchen was magnificently equipped with everything you could ever want to produce top quality dining. On the ground floor there is a family bedroom and a further twin bedroom both with en-suites and to the first floor there is a further five substantial double bedroom with the majority being nearer suites than doubles. The whole property is fantastically appointed. Gunter the host was constantly available if required and Alicia his local agent and Drisse solved any bits and pieces rapidly.
