"Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Overall, our family rated this Belize trip an 8 or 9 out of 10. We had a great time, and there were definitely more positives than negatives.Pros: We traveled during the off-season, which was a big plus because the roads, beaches, and surrounding areas weren’t crowded. The resort itself was very nice, spacious, and comfortable. We really enjoyed the pool, cornhole, kayaks, and the large selection of games available in the house. The games were especially nice in the evenings and gave us some great family time together.Property management was also very responsive whenever we had an issue or question. We appreciated having unlimited drinking water and toilet paper provided throughout our stay.Portofino and Sundeck restaurants are very close and convenient, although both are on the pricier side. There aren’t many other restaurant options on the north side, so keep that in mind when planning meals.Cons: The biggest downside is the distance from town. It takes about 30 minutes to get there, and the roads are extremely rough with lots of potholes and bumps, which makes the drive feel even longer. No TV's in the rooms. Only one in the whole house. The beaches were also disappointing if you’re expecting the typical Caribbean experience. Secret Beach was really the only beach we found suitable for swimming. The sargassum (seaweed) was very heavy during our stay and had a strong, unpleasant smell. At night, the smell sometimes lingered inside the house, which was difficult to ignore.The house could also have been stocked with a few more basic supplies. We ended up purchasing our own garbage bags and paper towels because there weren’t enough provided. The resort itself also didn’t offer many amenities beyond the pool and recreational items."

"Very relaxing. If you want crazy party vibe not the place for you unless you plan to drive. If you are looking to relax, and occasionally drive, then this place is for you. Great staff, great food, great drinks. Very chill."

"This is a very pleasant and well-run outfit. However, we were disappointed by the beach area, which wasn't really a beach but felt more like a concrete slab with a thin kayer of sand spread on top. Sadly, the shore all down Ambergris Caye was choked with a foul smelling algae bloom which made it impossible to swim and ruined the entire island atmosphere. The location is ok if you have wheels, but if you don't it's too far away from the shops, which is a real bother seeing as the hotel doesn't do breakfast."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely location. The villa was large and airy, immaculately clean, and wonderfully peaceful — perfect for relaxing. The views from the windows were stunning and added so much to the experience. The staff made the trip even better: they were friendly, informative, and went out of their way to be helpful with recommendations and any questions we had. Great value and highly recommended for anyone looking for a calm, comfortable getaway."
Portofino Beach Resort

"Portofino is a beautiful, quaint little resort. We have stayed in their small cabanas a number of times. They are rustic and simple. The resort grounds include a lovely salt water pool, a dock, a small reception area, a small outdoor bar with a beautiful patio under large sea grape trees as well as a restaurant above the reception area that overlooks the gorgeous sea and barrier reef. Overall, it is simply beautiful and relaxing. The frontline staff are phenomenal, truly great and caring human beings. They really make the stay very special. This July 2026 stay, however, we experienced a few disappointments in comparison to past stays. The restaurant food was not as good overall as we have experienced in the past. Most disappointing in respect to the amenities was the removal of the water taxi as an option for going into San Pedro or to other resorts. We were truly saddened not to have that available given how far Portofino is from the city. The biggest challenge, though, was the lack of available beach front and ocean water. While not a reflection on the resort itself, the large amount of seagassum was disgusting and the smell sickening. Sadly, it extended out past the end of the dock."

"We had an absolutely wonderful vacation in Belize! The VRBO was beautiful, comfortable, and the perfect place to relax and enjoy the area. Our host was incredibly welcoming, the caretaker was helpful and attentive, and having a private chef made the experience extra special. "So important! In order to reach the resort you either need to take a water taxi ride which requires a taxi from the airport. Or if you don’t want to take an almost two hour boat ride to the island of San Pedro you can take a puddle jumper. I’m not sure if they are right there at the airport since we took the water taxi. Second once you get to San Pedro you need a golf cart. If you contact Mangata before your arrival date, Jennifer the owner will be happy help assist with setting up things you need in advance. Mangata Inns/Moon Barwas absolutely perfect for our anniversary trip. Once we got there by golf cart Jennifer and her husband and fellow proprietor introduced themselves while we sipped on our “welcome drinks”. They personally showed us to our own personal casita with a nice large king sized bed, kitchenette, bathroom with double sinks, shower and small sitting area with table and chairs for two all tastefully decorated and updated nicely. Jennifer has a book put together with all kinds of helpful information including nearby restaurants and which are their personal favorites, things to do on the island, a “how to” section for the safe and the tv, and misc item. When your driving your golf cart the 6.5 miles to Mangata you may think you picked someplace to far out. Wrong. It’s nicely placed on the north end near excellent restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, and most importantly Secret Beach!!! Jennifer and Justin do so much to ensure you have an excellent stay.❤️"
