Le type de charpente est dit à la Philibert de l'Orme. Ce religieux du 16e siècle est surtout connu pour ses travaux d'architecture. En particulier, dans le livre X de son "Premier tome de l'architecture", Philibert de l'Orme décrit un nouveau type de charpente pouvant utiliser du bois court pour des toitures à grand développement.
