"Absolutely lovely hotel in a stunningly restored Renaissance palazzo. We booked for one night and ended up staying three nights. Spotless clean, excellent service, and tasteful rooms in a scenic little town with few tourists. Ideal for day trips to Asti, Alba, Fossano, Cuneo, and other culturally relevant sites in the Piemonte. We fell in love with Mondovi, its excellent restaurants, and the calm genius loci. Barbara and Massimo, the owners, gave us a tour of the palazzo and the neighborhood....

Grand Hotel Pietra Ligure

10/10 Excellent

"Loved the pool on the roof. Great place. A little weird to get to the beach but not a show stopper."

Best Western Hotel Acqua Novella

8/10 Good

"Pro: Beautiful view of the sea. Modern very clean rooms. Excellent bed. A+ Room Maid. Reception staff all very helpful. Brilliant breakfast area. Quality food. Swimming in the sea - fantastic! Pebbles on beach - wear beach shoes Cons: No restaurant for guests Only for bus tour people. Tiny unattended poorly stocked bar. No BW beach bar. Must rent chairs for €30 and eat mediocre food from nearby cafe. No food or drink at pool. No pool towels. Very steep isolated location. Many elevators. Funicular. No car? Good luck with taxis. Very hard to contact and arrange a ride. Order taxi from staff well in advance. Summary: Look at hotels on beach right in Spotorno or Noli"

La Meridiana Relais & Chateaux

10/10 Excellent

"The setting is beautiful, with immaculate grounds and a stunning pool, surrounded by mountains and tranquility but only a short drive from the beautiful Ligurian sea. Golf course Garlenda nearby was fun, and we used the mountain bikes to explore the lovely nearby village of Villanova and were only a short drive (~10 min) to Alassio with its beautiful beaches and lively and elegant town centre. One of the most impressive aspects of all Meridiana was the staff - absolutely fantastic- from front desk ladies who were all exceptional to the waiters who were friendly and genuine people. Giulia, Carlotta, and two other ladies whose name I missed- and of course Filipo, who made great cocktails. While I’m naming only a few, I thought all were fantastic and so helpful. We would love to come back to this special place."

Marina Hotel Charming Rooms

"Séjour parfait. Hôtel très bien situé. Charmante chambre, très propre. Déjeuner délicieux et variés. Personnel accueillant et disponible. Air climatisé fonctionne très bien. Prévoir un léger supplément pour entreposage de vélo et serviette de plage. Nous y retournerons assurément!"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Massimino?

The best area to stay in Massimino is within the village centre itself or in the immediate surrounding countryside for those seeking a more secluded experience.

Massimino is a small, traditional Ligurian village located in the mountains, offering a peaceful retreat. The village centre is characterised by narrow, winding streets, stone houses, and a central piazza where locals gather. You'll find a few small shops for daily essentials and a couple of trattorias serving local cuisine. The main church, Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista, is a prominent landmark.

For couples looking for a relaxing escape, staying within Massimino village provides a genuine taste of Ligurian mountain life. You can enjoy quiet walks, savour local food, and experience the slow pace of rural Italy. It's a great base for exploring the surrounding natural beauty and enjoying the fresh mountain air.

For families, opting for accommodation just outside the village centre, perhaps a rural villa or a farmhouse, can be ideal. These properties often come with more space, private gardens, and sometimes even a pool, offering children room to play while still being a short distance from the village amenities.

When is the best time to go to Massimino?

The best time to visit Massimino is during the shoulder seasons of May-June and September-October, when the weather is pleasant and the region is less crowded.

These months offer warm, sunny days great for exploring the Ligurian countryside without the peak summer heat or the larger crowds. You'll find it easier to book your preferred accommodation and restaurants, allowing for a more relaxed and enjoyable trip.

For those who enjoy hiking or cycling through the hills and vineyards, the milder temperatures of May, June, September, and October are ideal. The natural beauty of Massimino, with its rolling hills and distant sea views, is best appreciated when you can comfortably spend time outdoors.

Travellers looking for a quiet escape will also appreciate these times of year. The village maintains a calm, welcoming feel, making it great for couples seeking a peaceful retreat.
